switzerland has not beaten germany in 50 years (and they play often) and austria not since 78 when austria were a top 10 world team :)

I doubt Spain is going to make the Final. They're going to have to go through the winner and runner up of Group C I believe, which is no easy task. If they do make the final after that, then they should have enough confidence to win it.

The only top contenders here are Germany and Italy, and you forget the most balanced team which is France.

Portugal defense is too weak, and Spain nevers makes through the quarter in official competition.

Portugal's defense may be "weak" in your opinion, but they also have the weak half of the bracket where their only real competition is Germany, so they have to be considered a candidate.

You can't write off any nation as "they will NEVER do it" they way you are writting off spain. I think this squad has both the experience, the skill, the speed and the character to do it. I think Raul was a real distraction at the last WC, and without him here the squad is much more unified. They have the best keeper on the planet not named Buffon, they have an amazing attack force, a strong central midfield. Their defense is the weakest link, but they do have Ramos back there.

As for France, I think it was a mistake not bringing Mexes, who should be starting for them, I think they have the talent, but their coach is a complete idiot and I think it will wind up costing them in this tournament.
