Yeah, Flamini and Mexes looked better to me. They are the future though.

It's hard to say Mexès and Flamini are notre avenir as one is 26 (though defenders, as seen in Thuram's case, can have their career well into the 30s) and the other is 24. I don't think we can knock Lassana Diarra too much, I thought he played quite well yesterday, and he's been a regular during the second half of the season, though I suppose with Mexès it could have been his injury suffered in the Coppa Italia?

I don't know, though I'm admittedly a very pro-Mexès guy, so I'm very disappointed. I also like Ben Arfa a lot, but really Perrin is to blame for his exclusion since obviously Govou has been playing a lot more than him.

I think with this selection, though, the weaknesses are evident. Other than Malouda, no lefties, and woe be our central defense if the likes of Boumsong see the pitch the summer.

On the other hand, I think the choices of Mandanda (over Landreau) and Gomis (over Cissé) are quite justified.

all I care about is that cissé is out
woohoo!!
at least the fans won't have to worry about their windshield if they're parked in the stadiums parking lots

I'm suprised Sagna and Clichy werent even in the 30 man squad, let alone the 23 man one. They've been 2 of the best fullbacks in the EPL this season, especially Sagna.

Bousmong over Mexes. Thats just nuts.

How can anyone not recognize that Mexes is on the same level as Sergio Ramos?

sagna and mexes were coming back from injury... well sagna was, domenech just doesn't like mexes... and maybe clichy and sagna are scorpius too: domenech believes in that mumbo jumbo crap
I can't believe we have to put up with that supersticious moron 'till 2010 :(

sagna and mexes were coming back from injury... Doesn't matter, you keep them on regardless.

talk about an insult to injury for mexes.

finally looks like he'll break into the squad, but nope.

i really don't know why boumsong is in there. the only thing i can think of is that he's versatile enough to play RB. but if it even goes that far, i think france are better off with gallas playing RB and mexes in the lineup. i hope, for france's sake, JAB gets comfortable on the bench.

That doesn't make any sense. Why would you keep unhealthy players on the squad? Mexes couldn't even manage to participate in training. Getting back to even 80% by next week is a lot to ask and might end up aggravating his knee even more.

If anything, Escude might feel hard done by. He was well enough to take part in practices, and he started against Ecuador, but he was dropped anyway because Domenech was worried that he wouldn't fully recover in time.

Agree with everything you said. I'd go one step further and say I'd have dropped JAB altogether for Ben Arfa. France doesn't have much versatility in attack other than Ribery and Govou. The other players, as good as they are, can only play 1 position. This becomes huge when you play that 3rd group match and have suspended players or want to rest starters.

escudé looked poor against ecuador, but the explanation is that he REinjured himself in the first half, that's why he subbed out.

invoking mexès so-called injured status is just a face-saver, he's as healthy as need be. if he was going to kick ass on the field, hey, i'd give him estelle's cell number, but since any n°8 defender is going to spend his time on the bench, why playing changing room russian roulette with someone who has made a career out of getting on people's nerves?

if all you've seen of boumsong is chuckle brother youtube clips i've got news. he's scarcely put a foot wrong for OL since january, and if juni gets run over by a bus he may become captain. that's a dude to have on your bench!

why? because players feed on the crowd, but in that crowd there are a handful who count much more than the other 100,000. if the france bench had been pouting "woe is us" in 2000, you think nino and trez could have come in and really taken care of business? it's because they were bathing in an unadulterated atmosphere of just win baby for 75' that they the did what they did in the next 30'.

And now, the real reason why Domenech and Mexès don't get along
(it really isn't, and this was my girlfriend's idea, actually)

Raymond Domenech: So hey, Philippe, my wife happens to think you're handsome, so what do you think about her?
Philippe Mexès (thinks about what happened to his teammate Giuly, turns off cell phone): Oh, that's very nice of her, I think she's a nice lady, though I'm not attracted to her.
RD: Oh? Despite her complimenting you on your looks?
PM: No, well, she's just not my type.
RD: Oh, though alright, you agree you're handsome?
PM: Well, duh.
RD (begins to grumble inside a bit out of jealousy): She would be correct about you, then, being handsome?
PM: I think so, but she wouldn't be my type.
RD: Does that mean I have poor taste in women, then?
(Mexès does not know how to respond, he's baffled by Domenech's games.)
RD (walking off): Oh, and tell your friend there Ludovic that I said hi. (aside) Imbecile.
PM (alone): This was stupid. I'm off to play Guitar Hero, I don't get how Boum Boum is so good at these stupid mind games.

Mexes I'm baffled about but Flamini just had one great season IMO. Last season (2007-08) I remember him and other Arsenal fans seeing him run around like a headless chicken. But Boumsong, I think he has some rather incriminating photos of Domenech.

... Boumsong, I think he has some rather incriminating photos of Domenech.i've got another theory: that during his heckle and jeckle magpie escapade some tricksters slipped him a mickey and replaced him with a double in one of the greatest stitchups of all time. because when i think how promising he was at AJA, and how mature and solid he was this year at OL, i have a hard time believing he could have been as woeful as that in the intervening period. those chuckle bros. videos may just be an enormous hoax.
