Leeds United captain Alan Thompson has announced his retirement from the game.

The 34-year-old midfielder moved to Elland Road from Celtic in January 2007 but made only 25 appearances for the club and none in the last three months of the campaign.

In a 17-year professional career, he made more than 550 first-team appearances and also won one England cap - against Sweden in 2004.

"I've had a good career, but I've decided to call it a day," Thompson told United's official website.

Thommo did extremely well for Celtic and will always be remembered fondly.

who could forget the swerving strike he scored against Klos off the underside of the bar in the dying minutes.

Cool - I always like seeing what the preseason schedule looks like.

I like it - challenging slate of games and no extensive travel (a couple years ago I think Celtic had to go to both the U.S. and Japan for friendlies). Two tournaments too, that should be fun. :)

one of the home fixtures could be Sevilla. they, like Barca, will be using Scotland as a training base this summer and have mentioned that they'd like to play a friendly or two.

we usually play a home friendly right before the start of the new season.

very sad to read about the passing of Scott Brown's younger sister, Fiona, who died from cancer at the age of just 21.

IT is with great sadness that Celtic Football Club today announced that Scott Brown's sister Fiona (21) has passed away after a long battle against cancer.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Scott and his family at this difficult time. Clearly, Scott and his family will be receiving every support from Celtic Football Club.

This is an extremely difficult time for the entire family and naturally, we would ask that the family's privacy is respected.

R.I.P. Fiona. my thoughts go out to Scott and his family.

Bye, Alan!

Your header goal from Munich and your winners against Rangers (what a shot) & Barca will never be forgotten! :)

Such a shame to hear about his sister, he must be going through one hell of a heart ache session. I hope he recovers and dedicates all performances for her in his up and coming career, he's a good player learning the way. I hope he bounces back.. for himself if anything.

i meant to post this youtube vid a while ago but totally forgot about it until this morning. that's when i was watching this seasons finale of Lost.

it reminded me how happy i was when one of my favourite characters on the show, Desmond, turned out to be a Celtic fan.

Desmond the Celtic supporter. Faithful through and through. :)

That almost made me as sick as the ********ing horrible accents did. How much would it really have cost just hire Scottish actors?

Celtic supporters, as we are often told, are not always of Scottish origin. ;):D

Aye, but surely it's usually other Celtic supporters who are telling you that.:)

I got asked that question about the flags we fly at the stadium.

I was like... well duh.. think who started the club IN scotland dafty!

As for Desmond, maybe he is scottish maybe he isn't i should have actually checked! Though i think it's destinctive for the americans to click and go: ''ahhh! So hes SCOTTISH!''

The actor who plays Desmond is half Scottish - half Peruvian. His Scottish accent is fine, all the supporting actors have some sort of bastardised Scottish/Irish Americanised mess of an accent.

We all know why certain flags are flown.

Seems we are on the verge of getting Ross McCormacks signature from Motherwell. Not too bad, i wouldn't mind seeing what he can do, being scottish would be more than welcome to see some more home grown lads in the team again.

As long as it isn't another Riordan.
