Wow! If the object of the game was to get the ball as close to the goal without it actually going into the net, Austria would be runaway favorites to win this.

Funny quote of the year by a clueless ESPN announcer:

"Good display by Austria, making people think that they have a chance of winning European championship"

:D

Fitting: Robert Kovac and Emmanuel Pogatetz exchanged shirts after the match. The two tough guys......

Exactly. Any of us who have seen them over the past few years have seen this before. The only reason they are there is because they are co-hosts. Otherwise, these guys wouldn't have even qualified.

Kudos to the for them awesome effort. They would have deserved more if they'd got the job done.

I think they have a great future and may even beat Poland.

If they can find the net.......

Austria gave everything deserved a draw, Croatia looked tired.

Eduardo is a huge loss, just not the same Croatia without him up front.

Hard luck for the co-hosts so far. :(

Love the Stones, btw.

Petric was the biggest disappointment on the field today. All I saw from him was some jogging and losing the ball. Isn't he supposed to be Croatia's best striker? Are they saving his energy and secrets for Germany???

I want to see my boy Garics get some time!

I'm not sure if you're talking about the same guy, but right after the game ended their dumb American studio guy said something like "great effort by Croatia, people think they have a chance of winning the tournament" - obviously he wasn't watching the game and/or doesn't know anything about soccer because Croatia played horribly (yeah they won though - but not a good display!). Anyway that guy is stupid, he also appeared to have to read off a card to get Andy Gray's name right earlier on...

I don't know who Poland should be more afraid of Austria or Croatia.

full time, 0-1 Croatia.

The Croatian players are exhausted it seems.

Agreed, Olic collapsed on the ground as soon as he was subbed. They need to step it up by their next game, big time.

Really fun but frustrating to watch, Austria should have netted at least a couple. Croatia looked like shit all second half, wasn't expecting that at all.

Sucks for the Austrians, they played surprisingly well and completely dominated the second half of the game. I kept feeling like a goal for them was coming but alas, never happened.

I expected Austria not to be the sh*t team they were expected to be. They deserved at least a draw. Poor Austrians. They were my bet for the surprise team of the tournament.

Sums it. Tough on the Austrians. Almost is not good enough, but they played with honor.:)

If Austria would have a smart headcoach they would do MUCH better. Coach Hickersberger is a disgrace, the starting eleven of this game was just completely idiotic. They could do much better, they do even have better players.

Around the 10 minute mark, everything started heading south. If you didn't start watching from the beginning, it was as if we were playing with 10 men.

The only person in midfield who played well was Srna. The other 3 were ineffective. Petric shies away from bigger teams, as he had one good chance and shanked it.

Odd substitution to bring in a defender (Knezevic) for a midfielder (Kranjcar) by Bilic as I would have brought in Raketic early in the 2nd half to bring in some creativity that was sorely lacking. The strategy to bunker down the whole half almost backfired.

PS- Anyone who says that wasn't a PK, does not understand the game.

It wasn't a PK in the first game that the host nation is playing.

Anybody who doesn't understand that doesn't understand futbol

I didn't like the way some of the Croatia players kept accentuating any contact. That was, frankly, embarrassing. Olic, in particular, seemed to think he was going to get the number of free-kicks he rolled over by when he was fouled and as for that 'I have a boo-boo on my face' when Pogatetz fouled him, requiring writhing in agony for several minutes...man, that was bad
