I think United have more than shown how much they are going to stick by Rio over this.
He's not going anywhere.
He and Silvestre could be our best center pairing since Bruce and Pallister.

better motterman better, in fact much better theres no rushed clearances ,they both have pace and read the game well, there forming some solid defence, in fact its the best area right now... with howard etc

Can't argue with that, barring injuries and leaving aside the suspension I think we have at least eight years worth of central defence sorted. Rio/Vestry as the main pairing for the first four years and Wes/O'Shea for the four after that :)
As Vestry, O'Shea and Wes are flexible enough to play elsewhere I think we can afford one more specialist Central Defender given this role does attract injuries.
We also have what appears to be a consistent spine to our current side;
Howard
Rio/Vestry
Phil (New Guv'nor) Neville, Keano
Van Nist
If we could just get one world-class striker to partner RVN I think it will be the best squad (not team) we have ever had.

That's one of the funnier lines I've ready here in a while. That said, you can never rule out anything. I'm sure Madrid fans were saying the same thing about the Beckham transfer before it actually happened.
the major differences being... Becks was 28 at time, Figo is 31... Becks is the world's best dead ball specialist and crosser, while Figo is at best, almost world class in his possition... also, Madrid had a history of signing unsignable players away from top world clubs... Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo etc...
We mostly get players who are good and established, but not often those who play for the European giants...

Yep - Happy birthday SAF!
This year he can enjoy it too - as we usually have a game on new years day. As a scotsman with a birthday to celebrate the lure of alcohol must be irresistable - but as he is telling his players to abstain in previous years he has had to keep himself in check. Especially since that QPR home game all those years ago :(
I am betting on a very red-faced, red-nosed SAF facing the cameras on Saturday :)

Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is moving closer to a return after resuming training with the first team.
The Norwegian has been out of action for more than three months following a cartilage operation on his knee on 23 September.
But manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the player is now pencilled in for a reserve game against Birmingham on 15 January.
He told MUTV: "Ole trained with the first team. He didn't do an awful lot, but at least he did something. We've pencilled him in for a comeback game against Birmingham reserves. He'll be a welcome boost to us all because he is such a fantastic professional.

Barthez saves two and scores one in a penalty shootout in his debut for Marseille: http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-francecup&prov=reuters&type=lgns
???? Marseille must be weaker than I thought if they have Barthez taking penalties on his second day with the club. They have some serious talent but this was weird...

A little RED NEWS info...
Fergie gives Ronaldo a break -
"We have given him a little three week winter break and has gone back to Portugal. He has done fantastically well, and that's why we have given him a break."
Fergie on losing 2 Djembas - "We have not really had any use out of him for some time, apart from him being on the bench for the Everton game, with his mother being ill and call-ups for the Olympic Games and the African Nations Cup. We are just forgetting about him until March." lol

D^2 is even more surplusage with Kleberson playing well, Butt trying to hold a place in the first team, and P. Neville being liked so well by SAF.
Saw that we drew Northampton in the 4th round of the FA Cup.

Well, this aint zactly ManU news but its good to see the dynamic duo at it again...
Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole scored one apiece for Bolton to gain a point for Blackburn over the lowly Wolves...
I think they were probably our best duo... atleast in my times...

From Manutd.com:
Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has finalised a pre-contract agreement for midfielder Liam Miller from Celtic FC. Liam will join the club on 1st of July 2004 on a long term contract.
Liam Miller said: “As a young boy I only ever supported two clubs, Glasgow Celtic and Manchester United. I am honoured to have played for Celtic for six years and now I look forward to joining Manchester United. It’s very exciting and is going to be a challenge to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “We recognised the potential of Liam, he has had a great season at Celtic. He is very much part of our progressive thinking of developing a young team over the next few years”
