Thank the stars! I take it that means they beat Middlesborough to it.

It's a season long loan deal, and if confirmed then he'll do the job and hopefully help get us into Europe this season. It isn't ideal for solving our ballwinner situation in the long term, but he's certainly the best loan option out there and a definite step up from Dino Baggio and Petit.

He's a central midfielder, left footed, young, strong and can use the ball well. I know Pleaty was keen on him when Dalmat was at Marseille, and whenever I've seen him he's looked good. Inter apparently don't want to let him go permanently, which is a sign that even if he isn't a regular in their team, they still rate him highly.

So hopefully now we can put Dalmat into midfield as a protector of the back three, let Redknapp sit in there as well but with a bit more freedom to play passes and offer a shooting threat, and have Rickets or Davies playing in behind the two strikers as an attacking midfielder without getting pulled back all the time.

The left wing back position is still a worry now the Home Office have unfortunately denied us Convey. So we'll just have to muddle along for 12 months unless we can bring someone else in. But at least our biggest problem has had a band aid put on it.

If Taricco can hammer home a few more like he did last Saturday, I think we'll be ok there too. Also, having a stronger ballwinner in the middle will afford he and Carr more opportunities to attack.

I had him down as a ballwinner but I'm thinking now Dalmat used to be quite an attacking player, so he's more of an allround midfielder who likes to burst forward from deep. He can be defensively sound as well though. He's not the biggest, but will give us more of a presence and let the others push forward.

Apparently it's between us and Boro, but he wasn't exactly jumping up and down to move to them when they approached him early this month. So I think we can get him.

Reports are that Inter may actually be keen to let him go permanently, and for a reasonable amount, so if he impresses we may be able to snap him up at the end of the season.

I can honestly say that I'm not really familiar with him. I don't follow Italy much. I imagine he can play, and more talent is always a good thing with Spurs injury record...

I only remember him vaguely, haven't seen him play in a while and I never really concentrated on him. All can remember is that he likes to use his left foot and is physically mobile. I'm not even sure now if he played for Marseille, I know he moved to Inter from PSG.

Oh well, I know he had a lot of talent and was highly regarded by Pleat, so one way or another he should be able to help us. I think at one stage he may have been a winger or wide player, but then moved infield to play a bit deeper.

I'm not the biggest fan of Dalmat, but I'm willing to give him a chance. He seems to be the right type of player, and I have faith in Pleat's eye for talent. Frankly, I'm happiest that Pleat is getting to pick his players, as I'm not convinced that Hoddle is that good at it.

I wonder if this will envigorate Simon Davies. I think he may need a bit of a wake-up call. This should be it.

Actually, I think I'm more excited about Ricketts emergence than I am about adding Dalmat. I wonder if this move pushes Ricketts out of the lineup ... or perhaps to the wing?

I guess Dalmat doesn't speak English ... or isn't going to do so. I hope it works out, but a short term player who doesn't want to be here isn't the type of signing I like.

the article didn't say he wasn't going to learn, just that he didn't want to use any english with hoddle. perhaps he's self concious about that sort of thing.

The language isn't a problem, he can always use Kanoute as a translator. According to the Official Site he's going to do an interview on Tuesday, so he can't be that sullen.

He's got quality and will fill out the squad. He's not a permanent solution, but I think by Hodd's comments he's aware that a proper ballwinner is needed, unless he means a play maker like Diego?

The 24-year-old, described by manager Glenn Hoddle as a player who has got a "bit of everything", joins Spurs after struggling to make an impact at Internazionale.

"He's a good footballer," said Hoddle. "We've been looking for a certain style of midfielder and I think we're still going to have to search for that in the winter window. This lad has got a bit of everything and has certainly got two good feet, which is unusual nowadays in players."

Just because he hasn't been on the score sheet yet, doesn't mean Helder hasn't been getting his chances.

Ooh, how do you do the rolleye smiley?

I like Dalmat, i think it's a shame Inter bought him and wasted him. He's better than Zenden, who Boro got instead.

Plenty of people at Spurs speak french so it won't be too hard. I hear he's a bit of a free kick whizz too? Certainly plays the Hoddle way, and i have big hopes!

Bit of left sided balance, which is great!

Real madrid annoy me though, they loaned out Morientes to Monaco for the season.. when a year ago they refused to sell him to Spurs for £15m, if we're to believe it all.

Official Site interview:

Stephane Dalmat explained that he has been hankering after a taste of Premiership football for some time.
The 24-year-old Frenchman trained with his new teammates for the first time on Monday following his season-long loan move from Inter Milan and, with the help of his fellow countryman Fredi Kanoute, we were able to get his thoughts on why he chose Spurs as his port of destination.

"I am happy to be here because, for a long time, I have wanted to play in England and I am looking forward to playing now," he revealed, adding that he feels his two-year stint in Serie A has made him a better player.

"I have improved in Italy for two years now and I wanted to see and try something else. For a long time I have wanted to test myself in the English league so I am happy now."

Glenn joked on Saturday that his rusty linguistic skills might have played some part in convincing Stephane that Spurs were the best option for him and it seems that his 'pidgin-French' must have done the trick.

"At first I spoke to the manager and had a good conversation. After that I knew a little bit about the team and knew that it is a team that wants to achieve something - so I felt it was a good move for me."

Very good player, but deffinitly not the ball winner you need. His strengths are going forward.

He should get a good test against Chelski next weekend...

You lot should be more excited about Dalmat -

He is ridiculously talented but inconsistent - I had the pleasure of watching him in the San Siro during one of his starts for Inter - albeit it was against Atalanta - he was absolute class, best player in the park by far on that day

If Hoddle lets him play you may have yourself a very welcome surprise - he's entertaining too - enough for me to perhaps slog it up to WHL from SW4!!!

For historical reasons (read: other half) I actually find myself supporting a rather underperforming side from BL6!

But Selhurst is a nice day out when I can't make it up North
