Ronaldo. Very closely followed by Ferdinand.

Vidic.

With all the scoring prowess, I think people will overlook the defensive effort this season, and for whatever reason, I always thought we were in trouble in the games where Vidic wasn't available. I just thought he was very solid.

He's a player I really never, ever, never want to see play against United.

Ferdinand. Best CB on the planet right now.

The whole defense would win it over Ronaldo.

Individually, Ronaldo for scoring so many winning goals in a season where not many have come from elsewhere. The defense on the whole was very good with noone having a subpar season.

I'll have to go with Rio.

An imperious season all said and done. Without him we wouldn't have been in the final as well.

I'd put him in my all-time Utd xi now without hesitation.

Rio was just immense throughout the season. There is no doubt Ronaldo had an excellent season as well. But I look at what we would have achieved if either of them were not there and I feel like we'd have been worse off without Rio. Even when Ronaldo had a game when he didn't score (and there weren't many), Rio was still there shutting down our opponents.

Giggs and Scholes.
They set the tone and lead by example.

I voted for Rio. I felt he changed / won more games by his efforts alone more than Ronaldo did, although it was very close. He was able to organize the whole backline, and work with three different CB partners.

During this season, under Rio, the defense put in some huge performances, particularly in the CL, when we had to win or draw with our defense. We got to the final, and this great result because of our improvement in defensive play which saw us grind out results against Lyon, Rome and Barca (we can argue how happy we are about this).

He is fully committed to the club. Fifty starts from him this season. He even played that game with stitches in his foot for the second half (must have hurt like hell, even with painkillers etc), in stark comparison to Mr Glass.

All he needs to do now is be awarded the captaincy and start to exert more influence over the midfield and attackers.

With so many players having outstanding seasons I'd like to vote for 3 or 4. Rio has been a giant amongst men this season, show me a better defender anywhere this season. Vidic is everything that Rio is not and together they have been the best defensive pairing I have ever followed. Paul Scholes needs no introduction, he has been just as brilliant as we know he is. Always reliable, Always Paul Scholes.

But I can't not vote for Ronaldo. He has put everyones expectations to shame and shown that there really only is one Ronaldo. 42 goals in 47 starts is amazing but it's the way that he has put the fear of United into our opponents that's his main contribution, he cannot be ignored as our POTY in my eyes.

I can't seperate Rio from Ronaldo or the other way around. Rio was absolutely immense and the key to many things including the stopping of our opponents and the starting of our attacks. However while we did concede fewest goals in the league and kept 8 cleansheets in the CL, Ronaldo was unbelievable on the offensive end.

Ronnie lifted us when we had no true CF and in a season when you figured we'd not have any presence in the box since we played to sub 5'10'' Support Strikers up top, he answered the call. Not only finishing loads of chances but also scoring quite a few headers.

For both players you could say we'd not have won the league or the CL without them.

I voted Ronaldo. It was as tough as splitting hairs between he and Rio though and I feel bad for choosing one over the other as they were both our standout players this season. Rio Ferdinand is the best CB in world football as it stands today and there should be little arguement for that in my opinion. With that said though you also really cannot argue with 42 goals in 47 games from Ronaldo's position. It is almost unheard of in this game to see that goal return from an out and out striker let alone a Wing Forward or whatever people are choosing to call his position these days. He was immense against Chelsea in the first half and ran Essien ragged in the biggest game of the season and arguably his career.

In order:

Ronaldo
Rio
Carrick

Honourable mentions to Evra, Vidic and Nani.

Ronaldo edges it for me by just a shade.

But I think Rio makes an all time United team now, whereas I'm not sure if Ronaldo does. That may make no sense..

I rate these things based on consistency and at the end of the day nobody was better than Ferdinand. Ronaldo had a fantastic season and I do kind of feel bad because last season Scholes was clearly the best and bettering that, one would think Ronaldo is a shoe in, but that just shows how influential Ferdinand was. I say this knowing he's our big game player. Ronaldo may have had matches where he didn't show or wasn't as influential - that's normal. In games where Rio made one or two mistakes he still ended up being the reason we collected three points. We take Ronaldo out of the team and we can still play our brand of football and score goals (reinforced by a #9) but we take Ferdinand out of the equation and we can unravel immediately. He's the complete centerback and he came into his own this season.

I'd hand the ratings out in order like this, not that it matters much;

1. Ferdinand
2. Ronaldo
3. Vidic

Some people love to go against the grain. While Rio was great. Exceptional.... nah.

Just for argument's sake, what if Ferdinand had thrown in a few pedaladas? Would that sway you?
