sorry if this was posted elsewhere, thought you guys might be interested. It looks unlikely, but if it somehow came about, the guy can definitely still bag goals.

"According to several reports out of England, Newcastle United striker Mark Viduka is eyeing a deal to DC United."

Yeah - unless there is a corresponding deal to sell Emilio I think the likelihood of this one is less than 0.00000001%

Couldn't find any independent confirmation of this. Not suprising I guess. But a 33 year old striker who can look lazy when he is disinterested? And what would the price tag be???

Pretty unlikely in my view.

If you look hard enough(The Guardian mentions it) you can find mentions of it over in england, hes 32, and while he may look lazy at times, there is no doubt the guy can still hit the back of the net.

Old and injury-plagued is not how I like my forwards, thanks very much. I think Mark Viduka was an outstanding center forward 5-10 years ago. He was fantastic with Leeds Utd., for example, when he was big, fast, threatening and very scary. At this point in his career, though? I'm not so sure he's any more than big. I would view this with the same enthusiasm as, say, Martin Palermo, even though Palermo's older.

It is amazing that you know me so well from one post! I know who Viduka is. I know he is a dangerous player. But I also know that there is a salary cap in MLS. I also know that he slept walked through his time at 'Boro apparently because he was disinterested.

If a footballer is capable of being disinterested in what he is being paid to do, and as UBR points out, injury plagued as well. It's not a good signing in my opinion. YMMV, but already this is too much time spent on a rumour that is coming from only one source (the Guardian probably just picked up on the americansoccer rumour) so far as I can tell.

I'm ready to stand corrected, but no one seems capable of posting links to stories related to this in this thread.

I know I'm being cranky, but United is 2-6 and the big United is playing this afternoon, so I'm nervous on top of that....

[edit]Thanks Black and Red for the Guardian link. Too bad they don't have emoticons on the Guardian website, there was practically a visible rolleyes there....

Not a bad player, but gets alot and seems to fatter everytime.

I do remember; when Viduka carried Leeds and was a tricky bastard.

I remember this period very well. I would never say he was "fast", but Viduka was a stud back then - as good a "back to goal" target striker as there was in the world. You know the excellent first goal that Esky scored in MLS Cup 2004 - receive ball with defender on your back, turn to goal and get a tiny bit of separation with a little ball move, blast ball into the net? Viduka scored those kind of goals on practically a weekly basis.

I'd personally be excited to have the guy if only because he brought me a lot of happy memories back then. If he brought even half that quality to DC now he'd be exactly the type of player DC needs, but I'm not sure he can even bring that anymore.

that goes without saying, unless Emilio can pull like 10 or 15 goals out of nowhere he's gone anyways. I would have like to see a younger prospect though although it'd be pretty impressive if the MLS could start pulling players from the EPL.
