Was anyone watching the EURO 2008 update on ESPN2 this afternoon (U.S. Time) when they were discussing which competition (EURO or World Cup) was more difficult to win?

I was not as I am in Germany, but that discussion was had here too. Many believe it is this one because there are fewer "bad" teams.
I agreed with that, but after watching this match, I might have to reconsider.

Both these teams are regular World Cup Participants though, they may not be the best but the bad teams can at least fustrate.
The asia and concaf US and Mexico excluded are awful.

What? I don't think Greece has ever been in a World Cup. I know for a fact they weren't in the last three.

Ibrahimovic's goal is the first one to make me jump out of my seat in joy.
Bless him.

They were one of USA 94's Benny Hill teams.

Either way, I would say that the World Cup is more difficult to win because there are more entrants. Look at the fact that England did not qualify for the Euro this year. There is a quality team excluded and yes CONCAF excluding Mexico and the United States is pretty pitiful.

Thanks for that.
I know they aren't a "regular World Cup participant" as the other guy said. Euro 2004 was really the first time they'd done anything as far as I know.

Dude, England is hardly a "quality" team these days. I think the England fans will tell you that. I consider myself an England fan and I know it.
And actually, the fact that England did not qualify should speak the overall quality of the European tournament.
As far as the World Cup having more teams, don't forget that Quantity does not always equal quality.

?
And the Fra-Rom match had no chances and no excitement what so ever. This does and it's all from Sweden and from the Hilarious booing by even Greek fans when Greece holds the ball
Well, according to espn, GRE/SWE had twice as many shots on goal (6/5) than FRA/ROM (3/2).
I certainly don't remember 5 shots on target from that match.

Zlatan is the man, what a goal!
Zlatan alone > FRA/ROM

So far the worst performance goes to Greece. Austria battled and deserved a draw, the Swiss deserved a win, Poland had their chances, Italy were killed by Netherlands but made the Dutch work for it iRomania and France canceled each other out, in the midfield and today Greece simply did Nothing, Nothing they long balled it to patient Sweden thne through all their players in the box figuring they would fluke another win.
Their luck has run out....actually it ran out in 2006 but everyone seemed to give them the benefit of the doubt for failing to qualify for the World Cup. But now it's safe to say, Cinderella is dead and she was never good looking to begin with.

hhaha did anyone see the commentary from EPSN?

Justice, my friends, has been done. The only team on display interested in playing the beautiful game leads by two goals to nil. In your face Greece
I love it, even ESPN bashes the boring greeks :D

Theres more.
92'That is that, and thank goodness Sweden ensured football was the winner tonight. Having a tactical game plan is one thing, sitting in your own half time wasting after only half an hour is criminal. Greece should be ashamed of themselves. There's no place for such explicit negativity in this celebration of football. Well done Sweden, good riddance Greece. See you next time...
91'Samaras sums up Greece's night by falling over under no pressure from anyone at all. Tee hee.
87'Thank goodness Ibrahimovic punctured the despondency with a piece of genius,. If he hadn't I can confidently predict we'd be sitting at 0-0 now and rapidly contemplating self harm.

Not to defend Greece, because they most likely don't deserve it, but they did make Cristiano Ronaldo cry 4 years ago.
That's gotta be worth something . . . .
