If there is one about Arena then there should be one about Marco.

Yes, there should.
This team doesn't need more talent. What it needs is fire. Does anybody doubt that Etcheverry would bring fire?
His glorious history with United, his current association with the club, his bilingualityness (I made that word up), his pedigree as a player, etc. is all good gravy.
Do it. Do it now.

I think Marco would be an interesting pick. Synonymous to hiring Nowak. Former player who was the engine of a team, and very intense. He's an intelligent play, knows the game obviously. He might be worth a shot.

How about we keep Soehn (shudders) and hire Olsen and Etch for assistants to actually run the show.

I think Marco would be an interesting pick, he was very very close to begin his career as a coach for Oriente Petrolero, but his demands for his yearly wage was too much for the club so then went and hired someone else.
I think he has that soccer brain still, and can give the team that fire like others have said, he can help position players around gallardo i am sure better than Tommy, because he knows how it should be done as he played very simlar to El Muneco.
I know i might get some flack for this but in reality why Bruce Arena looked so good was really marco in disguise, its no secret he was the one really running the team IMO when he was on the field.

this from his wiki page:
He was then hand-picked in January 2002 by Porto (FCP) to replace Octávio Machado as the manager of the badly-motivated and unhappy team, which was already out of contention for the league title and was on the verge of not qualifying for any European competition. Mourinho guided the team to third place that year after a strong 15-game run (WDL 11-2-2) and gave the promise of "making FCP champions next year".
i know, its wikipedia, but this was the case with porto in 2002, and he's the reason they won the portuguese title the following 2 years, and the champions league
we need this kind of a coach, who will shut up every ego and unmotivated player on our team and bring us wins, badly needed wins, he knows the american system, he's publicly stated it, and if we don't take him, MEXICO WILL
this coming from a recent interview:
"My priority now is to work in the Spanish and Italian championships, they are the strongest in the world," he continued. "I have vast experience from England, but I want to try something new."
so getting him will be hard, but i have a feeling we could hook him with the "something new" brand of MLS

Uh. No.
MLS is not remotely on Jose's radar screen, and likely never will be.

How many freaking "for coach" threads do we need?

My four top choices for head coach should Soehn be fired:
1. El Diablo- for his passion and flair.
2. Paul Mariner-for he and Nicols ability to find cheap talent in the draft.
3. Earnie Stewart-for his general knowledge of U.S. soccer.
4. Mauricio Cienfuegos- for his passion and flair as well as the fact that he is coaching in El Salvador.

He doesn't have the experience. He has the fire, and that might be enough right now.
2. Paul Mariner-for he and Nicols ability to find cheap talent in the draft.
He has the experience, and if we wanted a team that played with all the flair of white lego blocks, he'd be a good choice. That said, right now, a single line of white lego blocks would let in fewer goals than our team.
3. Earnie Stewart-for his general knowledge of U.S. soccer.
Did someone say he was a technical director at Breda? If so, he has at least some experience. Does he want to live here?
4. Mauricio Cienfuegos- for his passion and flair as well as the fact that he is coaching in El Salvador.
I hate him because he represents LA Galaxy to me, Bechkham notwithstanding.

My only problem with Marco being coach is that eventually he'll lose three games in a row and people will be calling for his head. Should we risk the hero-status of this franchise's greatest player?

I think this thread is brilliant. Using it as inspiration, I'm now going to start eighteen different threads:
Guus Hiddink for coach!
Frank Rijkaard for coach!
Jose Pekerman for coach!
Sven Goran Eriksson for coach!
Vanderlei Luxemburgo for coach!
Carlos Queiroz for coach!
Ronald Koeman for coach!
Rudi Voeller for coach!
Dick Advocaat for coach!
Sir Alex Ferguson for coach!
Louis van Gaal for coach!
Franz Beckenbauer for coach!
Christoph Daum for coach!
Marcello Lippi for coach!
Roger Lemerre for coach!
Dunga for coach!
Luiz Felipe Scolari for coach!
Steve Sampson for coach!
I look forward to everyone's participation in all eighteen of these threads, and I thank DCSharksFC for the inspiration for this.
Before this gets too damn crazy in here... let us post all speculation regarding a new coach in here.
Thanks.
