No I'm not, but what does that have to do with it?
It's a reasonable question, why are you getting so defensive???

Because I don't see how whether or not a person is of a certain descent can either validate or invalidate his opinion. I've followed Romania for years. I really don't see how it would be different if I'd said I'm of Romanian descent. I have my reasons and I don't see why it is even part of the discussion.

I don't think the question was meant to validate or invalidate you or your opinion. I think it was just an honest question, posed out of curiosity.

But the way he took offense to the question says a lot about him

Johan, I can now see your point on overseas fans giving those within the country a bad name.

I don't know if you're saying that I'm invalidating anything, but it is not true because I said nothing of the sort. I was just curious.

Fair enough. Maybe I was a little defensive to your inquiry. After all the mud slinging about what a "true" fan is one gets fed up after a while.

You do a fair bit of instigating Toon, and I'm not the only that thinks that
(judging by what the Italians say about you).
Anywho, I just found this interesting stat.
Holland after Germany has the 2nd best win/loss record in Euro history:

I never said they give a country a bad name. I did say that they tend to big up the country they support more than the people who actually live in said country. And I said that their views don't always represent the views of said actual population.

That's fine, that's the Dutch posters.
However, am I to take it that you feel that every single other poster that posts from overseas is that same as those Dutch posters?
Maybe I'm not politically correct about this but it pisses me off to hear a Canadian Italy fan or an overseas Romania fan talk to me about the weaknesses of the Dutch national team in your or Canzano's manner. The overseas fans on the Dutch board may not always be as well informed as us domestic fans but they do at least realise it. I'm sorry but if you really think you overseas can know as much about Romanian football as someone in Romania who regularly attends Romanian league games and has lived there all his life, you really are beyond the beyonds.

Of course we dont. how can we.
We are not exposed to Dutch media 24/7 like fans in Holland are.
But now thanx to the internet that gap has been narrowed somewhat.
Used to be in the early 90's I'd have to buy de Telegraaf twice a week just to keep up. And the store that sold it was a 30 minute drive.

I didn't mean to target you with that post! Or any of the other overseas Holland fans actually as compared to ToonUSA you're about a billion times more knowledgeable and loyal and less cocky. ToonUSA apparently supports Newcastle (because his name is Toon believe it or not), Romania, Ireland and the US national team. AND presumably he believes he's at least as well informed on all of these teams as the indigenous population of these countries. I wonder how he keeps up! I also wonder about the dilemma he faces when all of these three countries qualify for the world cup!

Shish people. Why is Toon so important? Two Euro threads with more discussions about him than the actual tournament

What a childish post Johan.
Just because I've proven you wrong doesn't mean you have to get all bent out of shape and try and "presume" things about me or teams I support. You putting words in my mouth doesn't make things true, nor does it make you look like any less of a liar after the Piturca quote inident. You're just looking to save face by attacking me, that's fine but people can see right through that.
And yes I believe I'm as informed on the US national team (I know, shocking) and the Romanian team as those living there.

O, and Johan one more thing...
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=699888
USA's still my side. It's my country, I travel to see them when possible and invest my heart in many a tournament with a doomed result... this won't change that.
Sounds familiar...
I used to be very militant about that... only liking one team, only supporting one. However, I've kind of had a certain epiphany about sports and support over the recent months that really has kind of made me realize that there's no harm in supporting another team that you like for another reason... and a lot of what I've seen about the Netherlands makes me feel like it'd be that team.
If knowing some folks inside the FA of a certain country isn't a decent reason to follow them then I don't know what is...
I mean, my heritage is about 3/4ths Italian, I took the language in school and my grandfather almost got kicked out of school because he spoke it, but not English, in 1st grade... but, watching that team play, I can't support them. Heritage or not... I was rooting for France in '06 to beat them.
I'm of Irish descent, have never denied that. Nor have I ever outright supported them with all my heart. Like to see them do well but nothing more as the US has always been my team. Romania just entered the frame about 8 years ago and with the hook-ups that came with it how could I refuse.
This is the exact same situation as me (although I'm a little more involved with the Romanian team than he is with the Dutch one) yet you said nothing of the sort to him as you've said to me. In fact it seems as if you're quite ok with him. Is that because he hasn't proven you to have distorted the truth on more than one occasion? Probably pretty close to the reasoning behind it.
