Pretty good summary.

At least there are no quotes from Soehn blaming the players this time.

Most importantly, thoughts and prayers to Peralta, his wife, and their baby.

Most importantly, thoughts and prayers to Peralta, his wife, and their baby. The lack of quotes was explained in his blog.

The Aftermath, DCU-Chivas USA (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2008/05/the_aftermath_dcuchivas_usa.html)
You will not see any quotes in my match report on The Post Web site or in the very late print edition.

There are two reasons for this: First, the match started very late on the East Coast and deadline was tight. The second, and bigger explanation, was the fact that the D.C. United locker room was closed for about a half-hour. (The normal time is around 15 minutes.)

What was going on in there?

Soul-searching, perhaps.

Managing partner Will Chang exited with a grim look on his face. Team president Kevin Payne declined comment. Coach Tom Soehn, who usually steps out of the locker room promptly to give his postgame address, was nowhere to be seen. Players started trickling out of the locker room and headed toward the bus.

Finally, Soehn appeared. He called out Wells.

"Tonight he needed to come up with a couple saves, especially in games on the road that are going to be tight. I want to look at the tape again, but from my memory, he has to come up with a couple key saves for us."

Thx,

Jay!

Cool - maybe after our next loss, Soehn can blame Talon, or guys who don't even play here anymore like Brian Carroll, or OPEC.

That'd be nice.

That'd be nice.

He can start off by blaming Ryan who said after the first goal, "Great!! DC United has never lost a game when they've scored first!!"

Connie also went to the loo in the second half and Chivas scored twice so he can take the hit for those goals.

Or me for that matter, I didn't get home until the goals started to pour in from Chivas...

Unfortunately Soehn has lost this team. I say unfortunately because he really seems like such a nice dude. One of the few guys around the team who would greet a visitor with a smile and joke around. But bottom line, it doesn't look good for him.

FIRE SOEHN

Calling out the keeper publicly like that is just about the worst thing he could have done. Should have shouldered the blame publicly himself (coaches always accept defeat - players always get the praise for the win) and then on the practice pitch should have trained them harder ......

Probably is time for a change - players don't need a buddy they need a coach .... Etch, Arena, Olson whoever .... somebody who will have the players respect and attention.

even without flank speed and a MVP keeper etc. this time can do much much better. That responsibility has to reside with the coach.

Wonder how long the owners will tolerate this till a change?

I assume that Soehn is now on a leash with the clock running.

I guess that takes you out of the "Its still early in the season nothing to worry about camp".

But from a different perspective...
