Also: a Canadian Italy fan patronising a Dutch football fan. I thought I'd seen it all on these boards.
That is kinda bad :(

well there's nobody better than him :)
We'll just have to disagree in that case ;)

Meanwhile, Cassano has started some infighting at Italy. Way to go! :D
We'll see what happens, I think Italy will prove the most difficult match for us. A loss would not be completely unexpected, although a win would be greeted with open arms.
They're always a difficult opponent for us and that's the truth.

I wonder if there's ever been another central Real Madrid midfielder who the world hasn't particularly rated. Sneijder's in kind of a unique position there.

I cant believe some of the arrogance from some of the italien posters in here. I know that the dutch will struggle to find goals against italy, and will be satisfied with a draw. But those that say van nistelrooij is our only class player are the same people that have never watched a game outside of the serieA. I challenge you to find me a better LW in the game then Robben. If you think that sneijder was bought by real madrid only because he was what was available at the time than i just feel sorry for you. You clearly have not actually seen him play. He is one of the best in the world.
in van der vaart and van persie we have some of the most attacking and creative minded players in the world (but theyre obviously not world class because they dont ply their trade in the serie A, so youve never seen them play.. fine maybe one game).
yet you treat Quagliarella as the returning of christ. take off the blinders

who is better?
Sneijder for one is much more allround, tougher and an expert at free kicks. Besides that, the kid has a great attitude in the field.

Gravensen and Baptista. Makalele was underrated until he arrived at Chelsea.

Juve should have persisted in their interest in him. I bianconeri could do with a player like him in midfield.
Van Persie has had his injury problems recently. He should leave Arsenal just to get a change of atmosphere. If he's fit, he is a class act.
There aren't doubts over the ability of talent that Holland has in attack but they aren't as good as the Dutch stars from other eras. Take a guy like Kuyt. He's a hard-worker but he doesn't have the great finishing to win vital matches. IMHO, he wouldn't make a second or third-string Dutch team from the 90s. Even though some of the stars from the 90s didn't have great tornaments for Holland, they had some great seasons at club level (Van Basten in 1992). I'd like to see VDV, Van Persie and Huntelaar make an impact at the Euro, just not against Italy. ;)
yet you treat Quagliarella as the returning of christ. take off the blindersWhat gave you that indication? He had one great season with Sampdoria in 06-07 and he had a reasonably good season with Udinese. The only player that would be treated by some as "the Returning of Christ" would be Cassano but his nature is too unpredictable. If Italy gets eliminated early, Cassano should be made a scapegoat because his temper effects the atmosphere.

Sneijder is injured goddammit.
Not yet known how bad it is, but from the looks of it it's no Euro2008 for him.
EDIT: Sneijder is out for the Italy game... sigh. That's pretty much it for us then I think.

well if this is true, that's a major blow to the Holland midfield. even so i still think Holland could manage at least a draw with Italy. from what i've seen in the last friendlies Holland has a great apetite for offense in this period, so i think they could reach the semifinals or even more. hope they don't do so well with Romania though....:)

That is such a load of bunk. Every Italy fan has feared the day that
Nesta and Cannavaro would no longer lead the line and it's here now.
You don't speak of replacing such legends with the likes of Chiellini
and Gamberini. The truth is that Italy will struggle to replicate their
partnership. For about 10 years -- roughly '96 to '06 -- they formed
a galaxy class partnership, and regardless of how Italy do at the Euro
a major challenge for the national team is rebuilding the central defense
for the future.
Did you expect Nesta and Cannavaro to play forever ?
Didn't I hear the same groans at WC06 when Nesta went down ?
How did that turn out for us ???

Where have you found the reference for this? I checked the NOS site, the VI, and other footballsites, but none of them state that he is out for the Italy game..

True - it appears now that it's not true and that it actually isn't that serious from the looks of it. He was seen walking out of the stadium, handing out a few autographs outside.
Sheesh... I'm all strung out here :D
