They said they are both independet papers with no more loose connection than the owner but of course free to write whatever they want.

not sure that I believe that
Springer tend to be control freaks.

I think I am gonna stick with my springer = evil illuminati theory.

here is the bildblog article to springer`s international game

Anyway........Is this thread going to get out of hand or are we going to start talking about the actual match-up again? Enough about the nonsense in the tabloids.

All right, sounds good to me. Here's the German line-up that I expect for sunday:

-------------------Lehmann
Lahm-----Mertesacker----Metzelder-----Jansen
------------Frings---------Ballack
Schweinsteiger------------------------Podolski
-------------Gomez--------Klose

Terrible news. :( I was looking forward to seeing Kuba play in the tournament and use that pace.

I didn't like the picture either, but a little bit of free speech every now and then can be quite nice. And I thought it was perfectly obvious that the posters on here deal with it in a very sensible way.

Never mind, back to the game, although I am disappointed by the exaggerated censorship yet again.

Is it the gore? Or just complaints? People are too sensitive!

we aren't sensitive to it... there is no need for it. i'm Polish and feel it contributes to nothing with this match. it overshadows everything we WERE talking about though

I have a feeling this match will produce some fan tension, and possibly violence.

it did last time in Germany... what has honestly changed since? nothing. Polish hooligans still exist... German hooligans still exist... its inevitable something somewhere will go down

This game should have even begun, because of the heavy rain - it should have been postponed - it was a lottery rather than game and Germany was just lucky. I think we would have won in normal circumstances - we had better players back then - just look at the scores in the first group stage:
West Germany:
1:0 against Chile, 3:0 against Australia, 0:1 loss against East Germany
Poland:
3:2 against Argentina, 7:0 against Haiti, 2:1 against Italy

I think you're stretching it to say poland had the better players as germany's were european champions internationally (by a big margin) and at club level.

If I remember right, this game was the last one in the 2nd group stage and germany had recovered from their bad form from group stage 1, to a closer to normal level (after issues with the coach etc) and had beaten two good teams (sweden 4-2 and yugoslavia 2-0) so using the 1st group stage as an indicator is not that meaningful.

But it's true that in that tournament poland had been a bit more impressive and the game might have been a poland win on a dry pitch (equal chance with germany). Breitner still reckons poland were the best team in that world cup and could not compete on the wet pitch as they were "fair weather only" players.

well the good news is at the cable place, i literally went yesterday hoping for installment in my new apartment TOMORROW. there were all women working except for this hispanic guy at the desks of the cable company. i waited for him. initially he showed me how backed up they were til next friday!!! but i told him about the Euro, and like i expected he hooked me up with one of his buddies that installs so i should be taken care of tomorrow evening... in plenty of time for the 1st match of the Euros :)

i'll be watching this match probably just with one of my roommates that is a good buddy of mine from university, he is from Zimbabwe though. but he loved Figo growing up so he is cheering for Portugal. since Des Moines doesn't offer much when it comes to foreign selection of liquor, when i went home a couple weeks ago after finals i stocked up on Okocim (my favorite), Zwiec, Tyskie, zubrowka, espyrtus, and absynthe. so the next few weeks for the Euro should be a good time regardless :D only question is which of my Poland kits that i have collected over the years, will i decide to wear for the 1st match?

well you're all ready and you get good times for match kickoffs too!

forget the poland kit - wear a schweini one and consider it a good luck charm for poland! lol

with Kuba out that answers one of two questions for Poland. If Kuba was healthy he would be starting on the right flank, but since he isn't Leo loves Lobo so he should fill in just fine. Not nearly as solid as Kuba but still a solid footballer. the only question left now for Poland is what to do with Left-back. there are several options, but who knows what Leo will do

------------------------Boruc---------------------
--Wasilewski------Bak--------Żewłakow----???????--
-------------------Dudka--------------------------
--------------------------Lewandowsk-------------
--Łobodziński--------------------------Krzynowek--
-----------------Smolarek-------------------------
----------------------------Zurawski--------------

---Żewłakow picked up a nick in practice Wednesday so hopefully he will be fit for the match Sunday.

---the only question remaining is... will Jop, Golanski, or Wawrzyniak fill that last spot in the defense and if so will Żewłakow move off to the side or will he stay in the center?

well, as always Germany is the favorite and anything but a win will be seen as a failure for the our neighbors to the west
