About the photo-montages from the polish tabloid - its just a sort of reply for the tv commercial in germany. This one:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NJDznXsweio

I saw this ad on YouTube a few weeks ago and thought it was in bad taste and extremely stupid. Afaik though, it's not actually a TV ad, at least I've never seen it on TV (maybe someone else here can correct me) and I'd never even heard of "Foozee" before. I think they just put that on their website and someone then put it on YouTube.
It's extremely stupid and I can see why people in Poland would be offended, but you have to admit that the Germans in that ad aren't exactly made to look all that bright either.
The media (on both sides) is simply blowing everything out of proportion again..

Having said that, I really was shocked about that picture with the beheading. That's really just taking things too far imo...

Agree

Its just all in a very very baaaad taste. I've just read an interwiev with Bierhoff in "Przeglad Sportowy" (polish sports newspaper). I hope he was right when he said that he thinks that german and polish players don't give a f*cking sh*t about this bullsh*t...

Yeah, I hope so, too.
Actually, I watched two German news programmes last night and both mentioned the rivalry (or whatever you want to call it). Both though pretty much just put it down to newspapers wanting to sell papers and even necessary tension before a game like this. They didn't take it seriously at all. I found that very refreshing. :)

To fight through the whole game is not the way to beat germany. cause this is one of the big points itself, in my opinion much more then the polish's.
the german defense was not at their best, right. but its alway on a high quality. we talk about a difference to treams like italy or france, but for sure, it will be enough for the polish forwards.
there can be happen a lot in football, this is why i love it but _normally_ there is no chance for the polish team. win vs austria and draw vs croatia and u have a good chance to arrive the finals. the maximum i think u can get vs germany is a hard fighted draw, at a very bad day performance by germany.

C'mon, who (except for "BILD", which had just been waiting for this) cares for the shit created by the yellow press? The Polish & German ones belong to the same category in my eyes...

Let them fight their own war if they think they need it for their quota.

In a way one can thank them for the beheaded Löw&Ballack...by going to such extremes they have managed to bring the more subtle stereotypes and agitation into the spotlight as well (like in that Spiegel Online article).

Another memorable encounter was in 1974 when massive rain made it impossible to play a regular game

(This image must have been taken early on in the game, they're still so clean ;))

This game should have even begun, because of the heavy rain - it should have been postponed - it was a lottery rather than game and Germany was just lucky. I think we would have won in normal circumstances - we had better players back then - just look at the scores in the first group stage:
West Germany:
1:0 against Chile, 3:0 against Australia, 0:1 loss against East Germany
Poland:
3:2 against Argentina, 7:0 against Haiti, 2:1 against Italy

But it was a great tournament for Poland as well. I mean Germany won, but we came 3rd. (beating Brazil in the 3rd place game 1:0)

this looks like a very exciting game with two offensive squads. i expect many goals from this game. maybe a 2-2 draw...Poland played wonderful in their qualifications, and if they are in good form they will pass the group stages.

Will be watching it with my cousin who is also a longtime germany supporter. You got any polish fans over there with you?

nah :(

all my Polish friends are back home in Chicago or in Poland. well, one is in Indianapolis, he was a manager at OHare International Airport in Chicago but received a promotion and transfer so now he is down there at that airport. but i'll be visiting him in a few weeks anyways to see how he is doing.

well the good news is at the cable place, i literally went yesterday hoping for installment in my new apartment TOMORROW. there were all women working except for this hispanic guy at the desks of the cable company. i waited for him. initially he showed me how backed up they were til next friday!!! but i told him about the Euro, and like i expected he hooked me up with one of his buddies that installs so i should be taken care of tomorrow evening... in plenty of time for the 1st match of the Euros :)

i'll be watching this match probably just with one of my roommates that is a good buddy of mine from university, he is from Zimbabwe though. but he loved Figo growing up so he is cheering for Portugal. since Des Moines doesn't offer much when it comes to foreign selection of liquor, when i went home a couple weeks ago after finals i stocked up on Okocim (my favorite), Zwiec, Tyskie, zubrowka, espyrtus, and absynthe. so the next few weeks for the Euro should be a good time regardless :D only question is which of my Poland kits that i have collected over the years, will i decide to wear for the 1st match?

Well since both papers belong to Springer i think its fair to assume a bit of a strategy behind this, a nice little ping-pong game between Bild and Fakt wich gets both in the limelight and sells papers. Havent they done the same during the Handball world cup in germany?

They said they are both independet papers with no more loose connection than the owner but of course free to write whatever they want.

It's not true though, Super Express (the beheaded newspaper) is not a Springer publication, and according to a Süddeutsche article which I cannot find anymore at Fakt (Springer) they're unsettled now after they saw the repercussions of their little historical take...anyway, let's move on.

Even the Bild Zeitung itself is quite independent in different regions. Do you remember when the Deutsche Bahn considered moving it's headquarters from Berlin to Hamburg? The Berlin Bild and the Hamburg Bild fought it out in their own way, praising their own city and dissing the other one.

Of course, this "free journalism" (which is probably even true) can be used to make an extra buck.

However, the picture that was posted in here (Leo holding the heads) wasn't from Fakt, was it? So this doesn't apply anyway.
