even though it was 1-0, it was never going to be a poland win and a draw less and less likely as the game went on
Hind sight is always 20-20, isn't it? It's not like Poland hit the bar a couple of times at all.....

do u really want to play that game of "what ifs" because anyone can play that game when referring to any event in the past
haha... what you failed to remember from that match is Poland had a few good chances as well and there was one distinct one that permanently is tattooed to the back of my mind almost. the ball was crossed in from the right flank. Smolarek had beaten his marking and slid around the edge of the 6 yard box right in front of goal to connect with the ball. his finishing wasn't as good as now at the time. and the ball his the back of his calf then bounced off the ground and went off to the side away from goal where it was cleared. if he connected on the end of that one properly it would have been 1-0 Poland. so if you want to play a bunch of "what ifs" go for it... but it easily could have been 1-0 in favor of Poland as well

apparently chances are only 1 sided in his eyes, well at least we remember the whole match

This is creative work from the Polish newspaper Super Express, enthusiastically taken up by the German tabloid Bild.

And what exactly is your point of posting this here? Surely this kind of nonsense should be ignored and not propagated.

Someone please explain to me what's the issure with the Poles and that match? It's not like we cheated them for the WC title so why are so many so bitter about the game? Kicker is having a new survey on who is going to win the game. Guess who is leading the poll by a huge margin? They probably made a call on telly again to go to the site and vote for Poland like a couple of months ago.
I really don't get this.

we weren't cheated... but we were'nt a "walk in the park" like some of you Germans so marvelously put it. we loss 1-0 with a late winner for Germany in stoppage time. that is by no means a walk in the park. both sides had good chances, overall it was a good match... plain and simple.
and last time i checked you guys didn't win the World Cup either and weren't you guys hosting it?
why you read kicker is beyond me

I don't think anyone here actually said that.
Also, squid isn't German. ;)

I differ, it's a good dissuasion as far as political undertones, stereotypes etc. going into this tournament are considered. There was already far too much of that in this exact subforum for my taste.
Secondly, it's also mildly funny if looked at from a more light-hearted angle.
It is actually exactly for both of these reasons that I did post it right here.

I'm German. Do you seriously expect me to see the funny side of this. :D
Anyway the whole "walk in the park" discussion here is just a misunderstanding. I am expecting a draw or maybe a narrow win for Germany, but it won't be easy.

Who said that Germany coasted in that game? Please provide a link to this and we will al join in on your rant. Otherwise, I believe you are jumping the gun believing that German fans considered that "easy"...
As far as winning the WC...that's right, we won it in Italy in 1990 - we just returned the favor in 2006!

I know exactly which post you're referring to.
I hope the Polish team thinks the same way. In that case, it's going to be a walk in the park for Germany.
See?

i don't put words in other people's mouths... i don't make stuff up, plain and simple
You just take it completely out of context and change its meaning...
Now where did he say that you were "a walk in the park" in 2006?

I don't know anyone who thinks that match was a walk in the park. We had the better chances and more of them, that's for sure but if any had been in on both sides I think it would have ended 1-0 for the respective team.
Excuse me? Did I say anything about us winning the WC or anything? I was using this to say that some act as if we cheated Polen or did something else that was really meanbadevil judging from the theater that is surrounding that match and the upcoming one from Poland's point of view.
I don't read kicker. The telly action was in the news a couple of months ago and someone posted the poll because he thought the result was odd.
Why so aggressive? I asked what's the matter. I'd like to know.

Fair enough. But maybe you contradicted your self slightly there when you implied that "things like this can spoil the fun of the tournament" for you. Anyway never mind, it's not important.

He said is was going to "be" a walk in the park...not that it "was" a walk in the park...and he was referring to it being an easy game for Germany if the tactics described in the previous post were to be implemented.
