For Germany - a Pole.

For Poland - a Brazilian.

:)

No hangups, Podolski is a special player for Germany and whatever he feels, I could care less.

He plays for the German national team end of story.

Somehow he transcends his club form to play really GREAT for the nat. team.

I do mean to their form either later in a game or in the tournament. German teams are usually on a linear curve -- compared to themselves.

yes, that's true

Another criteria for a top 5 team for me is expectations. I don't think Germany's are quite that high yet.

I really like their style of play though.

Then why do people keep bringing it back up, over and over again? If you couldn't care less, then stop mentioning it. I've gone through all the posts in this thread since the game started, and the amount of comments about Podolski's place of birth are just ridiculous. The comments sound bitter, childish, and make people look like a bunch of sore-losers. The reality is that he plays for the German NT, and that will never change. Someone in this thread said "do the best with what you got," and I couldn't agree more with that sensible comment. Anyway, I really hope people stop beating a dead horse and just drop the whole thing from now on.

As far as the actual game, I thought Poland hung in pretty well, even though they were out-classed considerably. Polish defenders looked confused a couple of times out there, but it was a valiant effort. Germany showed their class and I wish both teams the best of luck from this point on. I really hope Germany can keep Croatia form getting any points in the next match, and that Poland can trounce Austria (although I'd be happy with a 1-0 win as well). BTW, I never liked Zurawski, and this certainly hasn't changed after that game. I think Roger was far more dangerous on attacks and I hope he starts behind Smolarek next game, even though I doubt it will happen.

Yes, dead horse tht was covered to death in 06 as too. Well, now it's on to "why the Kovacs play for Croatia" comments to start during the next match.

look,

I think they are good and look great. If they made it to semi-s, I think they would be appreciated.

I don't like the arrogant attitude many supporters have, so i think they are good, and I will know after this tournament where I place them.:)

It's too bad that obvious strength is in group C, reigning Champs and Spain in group D and Germany doesn't have to face a Holland, Italy, France, Greece or Spain until a final if they make it. That's a real tilt in power and because it is being played in two nations, the semifinals will be between the two halves, A and B and C and D so the same two teams can face each other again if from the same group.

Portugal and Croatia, straight up are the closest rivals to Germany in A and B.

Germany has had a number of Polish type surnamed players through out the years, Pierre Littbarski?

Dude, if you hang around this board...you will know I am far from cocky or arrogant. I don't priase Germany more than I judge them and critic them because I don't take them for granted.

I am just telling you were they stand as far as the bookies are concerned in reply to your; Another criteria for a top 5 team for me is expectations. I don't think Germany's are quite that high yet.

Sorry again. I don't mean you or other german fans are arrogant. Quite the opposite which is why i like the team and its supporters.

What i meant to say that for many teams, only winning the cup means something, and anything else is less than cool (the arrogance I am trying to stay away from). Unfortunately, I think this is what happens to the top teams.

For Germany, not the same criteria now.

Quite a lot of Poles emigrated to Germany in the late 1900s, mainly to the Ruhr area. That's why people like Pierre Littbarski and Dirk Nowitzki have Polish surnames.

I personally have Germany in my top 3 in the world.

I'm Dutch, so naturally biased, but I think this match showed they're not. Then again, maybe I should wait until tomorrow's game before I can really tell.

I thought germany was fantastic going forward (mostly first half), but in midfield they looked far from convincing (esp defensive) and it seemed that when Poland kept the field wide, the germans were very vulnerable.

They will go far, no doubt... they have a relatively easy bracket. But I disregard them as a winner after tonight until they put in a more solid performance.

You can start judge us after a couple of games, not after one or two. Saying that Germany is or is not in the top three after this one game today is ridiculous.

However, I am sure we can win another three WCs and ECs and there will still be people who don't rank us among the top 3 or 5 or whatever. :p

I don't see how a team that is the odds-on favourite to win Euro 2008 is not considered in the top-5 in the world.

Solid performance from Germany, could of been 3 or 4 zero for Germans this game shows the gap in quality between them and us. Germany is a very very good turnament team, this is 1st time for Poland at the Euro's so I can't say we did not deserve to get punished for our crappy defence.

We will beat unified Germany eventually, it will take time though cause were gona have to build up our infustructure first and then grow the league at home and start producing some players.

P.S: Podolski looked good out there, kinda ironic you got a Polak on a German team scoring goals against the Polish NT.

Yeah, very ironic...maybe Guerreiro will score the goal that will give Poland's first win against Brazil too...;)
