In late 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003) after couple of impressive performances in his first few Bundesliga games, Polish media suggested then-Polish national team coach Paweł Janas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawe%C5%82_Janas) to check Podolski out, as he was still eligible to play for Poland. Janas ignored the request stating in one of the press interviews that "as for today we have much better strikers in Poland and I don't see a reason to call up a player just because he played one or two good matches in the Bundesliga. He's not even a regular starter at his club." By that time Podolski was still interested in representing Poland, but as the season progressed more and more German media started to suggest to call up the striker to their national team. When his full potential was finally unveiled, he had already been persuaded to represent Germany

I wouldn't slate the guy too much for passing on him. Looks like Podolski does well when paired with Klose, who's a great player. Who's to say Poldi can do as well in a different situation. He barely gets to play with his club.

Portugal played pretty good

yes that's true. what i mean is that Germany has the best forwards till now (they're in top form). Portugal had problems in attack and eventually a defender Pepe broke the deadlock.

Well,

the Germans mean business. They ususally start slow, so if this is their slow,..... The Netherlands v Italy match will tell a lot what the top level challenge to them will be.

Keep your shots down, for chrissakes!

And that was some great work on the left flank by Klose. He's been superb.

I'm actually quite looking forward to seeing Austria vs. Poland in 4 days time. With both teams needing to win to avoid elimination, and based on their 2nd half performances - I reckon that will be quite a good game.

Kuranyi on for Klose. Great game from Miro, I'm very optimistic about our attack.
