Stumbled on to this interview. Near the end he makes some nice comments about how soccer helped him.http://cbs2.com/video/?id=67147@kcbs.dayport.com&hbx.hra=Losangeles-LAN&hbx.cmp.c1=video+90781326&hbx.cmp.c3=641&hbx.cmp.c2=160+x+600+90781326&hbx.cmp=AFC-Los

Can somebody with a good sound system interpret the question that led to "European players are smart and Americans are idiots". I'm a bit miffed. It's great that he thinks soccer helped him with basketball but it angers me to discover that he is a Eurosnob.

He's talking about basketball I think. And if people like him keep going straight to NBA, then of course the European players will be smarter

That's a really funny generalization considing most NBA players went to college while soccer players never do becuase they're too busy in the academies.

I'm comparing basketball players to each other, I know that European soccer players don't go to college.

In fairness, it's not exactly like most of them were top of the class in grades coming out of High School. All of the football players and basketball players here at my school have the same major, kenesiology (despite the name it is not hard course work... at all) ... coincidence?

No, not all NBA players are rocket scientists, but the college experience is extremely broadening. You are taking kids out of their home environment and placing them in situations where they must learn to adapt to many different types of people not involved in sport. The dorm experience, etc- most students are not from similiar socio economic backgrounds. It is something US sports should be proud of.
