I do feel for Rangers as they've been punching above their weight all season, which a lot of people haven't really taken that into account when they complain about their tactics, they were just simply playing to their strengths.

What is disappointing is to see that yet again a minority of Rangers fans have cast a shadow over the majority who were law abiding citizens enjoying the weather and atmosphere in the centre of Manchester. Irrespective of the way the city of Manchester organised the fan zones or how heavy handed the police were you just can't act in that manner and expect to not to portrayed in a bad light in the media.

Yes, a lot of Rangers fans did bring shame on themselves and our country but again, you seem to be suggesting they're they only ones who do so.

Despite bigging themselves up beyond belief, quite a few Celtic fans also act shamefully at home and abroad although they obviously don't cause as much trouble as Rangers did last night.

I'm not suggesting that for a second and i don't think now is the time or place to get into a discussion like that, i'm merely saying what i feel about the situation at present with respect to Rangers recent record in Europe, it's just a shame that once again a small minority have tarnished that image.

Due to recent events it's disappointing that the majority of respectful law abiding fans have to the tarred with the shame brush.

Sorry, my first post was directed at camerondocherty. I thought your post was very reasonable.

Reading some message boards it was sickening how some people actually wanted it to kick off!

Anyway I watched the game in Albert Square. I had a great time time apart from the result. I don't think I'll ever witness anything like that again. I've no idea how many fans were there but I'll check on my Seville calculator later.

I was not aware of any trouble until this morning. Did not see any at all. To be fair to the Manchester police they are saying it was a minority and I though they did a great job. They were posing with Rangers fans for pics, giving them there hats and there was some good banter. I'm sad that there was trouble. Annoys me when some idiots have to spoil it for the majority. But lets be sensible. If you have a group as large as that there is going to be a certain amount of idiots. Just a shame they cannot go elsewhere, have their fights and not come back.

Yeah it's pretty disappointing really, after 10,000+ fans were escorted to a alternative screen to continue watching the game, a pocket remained and took it upon themselves to cause trouble. A small minority but that's all it takes for violence to escalate.

Once more CCTV footage is unearthed it's only going to get worse, and it's not only the reputation of Rangers that's going to suffer but also Man United and Chelsea fans who as a consequence won't be able to travel to any fan zones to watch the Champions League Final as it's just not viable after last nights fiasco.

This type of our garbage happens at lots of matches around Europe but just cause its the Old Firm its an Epidemic. Honestly Celtic supporters weather they like it or not will be associated as part of the Old Firm so whats the point of bashing RAnkers?

It is a team from glasgow we are talking about here FFS. with 100,000 fans travelling you have to expect something like that to happen with the amount of neds that run through our streets. apart from supporting a different team there is no difference between neds that support rangers and neds that support celtic, they all behave the same. STUPIDLY

I was at the game last night and spent the day with a group of Zenit fans who had flown in from SPb. I've been all over with England and various clubs but to be honest, the behaiviour of a significant number of Rangers fans in the city centre was shameful. Not the violence which happened later on, but the nature of some of the singing, urinating in public, etc, etc, during the day.

That said, no one expected that many to turn up and the bulk of their support was great. On the way to and from the stadium, as well as inside, they were a credit to their club.

Only afterwards did it all go horribly wrong and whilst many people have tried to blame the organisation and the police, the fact remains that if large groups of people drink solidly for 12 hours, a few are going to get rowdy. The sad thing is, those few went way over the top and that will reflect on the Gers and their support for a long time.

as has been mentioned elsewhere this was a recipe for disaster. i had quite a few friends at the game, including my mate and his wife who were clearly seen on STV before the 2nd half kicked off :) and i know that the majority of Rangers fans are well mannered, nice people.

the numbers show it was only the moronic few within their vast numbers that brought shame to their club.

Glasgow has it's fair share of arseholes, both Rangers and Celtic supporters. will there ever be a way of controlling them or weeding them out? i don't have an answer to that.

what i will say is, and i don't want this to turn into a Rangers/Celtic debate, but i travel with Celtic in europe and the amount of idiots following the team is certainly dwindling. is there still sectarian singing? yes. has there been incidents such as last night? not that i know of.

i left the San Siro last season after the knockout match and swelled up with pride as we walked past a huge line of Milan fans, officials and police that applauded us as we left the stadium. surely that sort of emotion beats the hell out of throwing bottles at a riot cop.

hopefully, both teams can keep moving in the right direction and away from the bigots and the arseholes. yes, we're the two biggest teams in scotland and are their to be shot at but by the same token both clubs are trying to eradicate the unsavoury elements in their supports. hopefully, we can keep on weeding them out.

Having wandered over to BBCs Manchester page, and looked at the message board, a few people have likened the morning after to the damage caused by th IRA back in 96. OK, I would not go that far, but apparently the damage to property, debris left around, and using various memorials as toilets has deeply upset a lot of people who live in the city.

I was somewhat surprised to see comments of 'Shame on Manchester' after the screen broke. After all, how much backup should the city have put in place? There where 3 screens, and when one went down, they tried to shuttle everyone to another elsewhere. Apparently they had a team of guys working on the broken screen, only to be pelted by beer cans and bags of 'brown stuff.' Needless to say, they withdrew and failed to complete their repairs.

I do still respect Rangers as a whole, and Scotland fans are, on the whole, a fun bunch to get on with. Just dont sit on those laurels guys, stuff like this REALLY does not help your cause!

Here here fraser.

the support we had that travelled to Seville, you could here the storys and it was more good that bad for the Celtic support especially the one involving the beer truck and the praying group of celtic supporters.

I just wish these twats would get a life other than being a giro snatching yob.

Are they not Britain's shame? I keep hearing that's the place they're actually from...

It's no surprise that something like this happened. I know these people, I know what they're like. They do exactly the same things out on the streets up here every weekend, get them together in a large group and they'll just do the same on a larger scale. Most of them don't know that it's wrong, and they don't feel ashamed about it; they're not actually capable of that. And Manchester is well within reach for a large number of them. Lets not pretend that Scotland is a big land of fluffy bunnies, our rate of violent crime is deplorable, and our rate of alcohol abuse is even worse.

I believe the old firm are terrible for Scottish football, and Scotland in general. But this is deeper than that, it's a social issue and a cultural issue. We just brought a little bit of the streets of Glasgow and Paisley and Greenock and Irvine and Clydebank and stuck them Manchester for the night.

the footage i've seen shows guys with no colours on fighting which is strange as almost everyone i seen had rangers shirts/t-shirts on.the manc police are releasing footage that suits their agenda, why not release footage of innocent bears getting a doing for simply being there?by the way condolences to tommy burns' family ,i couldn't stand you as celtic player or manager but you were a red hot tim and i respect that entirely.i don't do god or religion but you were a football man tam,so where ever you are i hope your at peace and happy.

Forget the conspiracy theory. I was in the city all day and there were plenty of Rangers fans not wearing any colours. And if you're referring to fans being struck by policemen, they have no one to blame but themselves. If things were turning nasty, why hang around? It's not as if they were trapped there. And let's face it, most of those involved clearly knew the score when it came to violence at games so what was going on would hardly have come as a surprise.
