You know him here as Sundevil9. He also writes the Nest Liner (http://screaming-eagles.com/?p=761) for the Screaming Eagles.
I saw on another site where his wife Maggie posted that he had suffered a stroke this past Sunday. Posted below is her recap of the events.
Please keep Kim and his family in your thoughts and prayers and I know it would mean a lot to Kim if you either posted some thoughts here or at the web site Maggie has set up. I've posted the link here. She'll print the replies and read them to him. Thanks! --Bill
Kim has been admitted to Reston Hospital's ICU with a stroke in his cerebellum. It is not the typical stroke with typical symptoms like palsy, slurring of speech, or weakness on one side. His primary symptom is vertigo, and side effects from that like hearing trouble.
Thank you to everyone who has called or sent messages with their good thoughts and prayers. They are very much appreciated. Here are the facts as I have them:
When he hit his head yesterday morning, he somehow damaged some arteries in his cerebellum, which caused a stroke of that area. The edema caused by the injury is the most worrying aspect, but the worst of that should be over by tomorrow morning. His stroke doesn't not have the usual symptoms we know like a palsy, weakening of one side or slurred speech. He have vertigo, and dizziness, and a slight headache. He is alert, and awake, but very very bored! He can't focus on anything so watching tv or other visual interests are out, and his ears still have some tinnitus and muffled sounds. He can carry on a conversation, but it is difficult for him to listen to music or the tv.
He saw both the neurosurgeon and neurologist today and they agree that he should be just fine, barring any complication overnight. They expect a full recovery, however he may not ever be 100% again. We don't know what 95 or 99% really mean in terms of recovery, but it sounds a lot better than being stuck in the ICU.
He will be in the ICU for at least two more days, and we are unclear about the time period following that. While he can not really talk on the phone much, he would love any words of encouragement you might want to send through me, or my mail. He feels lonely, and is most worried that other people are worried. Typical Kim! We are hoping and praying fervently for the best case scenario, and are keeping a positive attitude.
Love and Peace,
Maggie
