With the team struggling and the players lack of motivation, you could very well see United make a trade or two to try to wake the team up. Houston acquired Ngwenya and Jaqua last year and those players turned out to be huge. Who do you think United should target and who do you think should be traded(if anybody)?

We should target the best players in the league at their positions, and trade away our worst players.

OUCH! that sounds worse than intended. Especially since I just insinuated that the gypsy was coming on to the CHV guy.

I heard a rumor we're trading Stratford and 2 ball kids for Henry, Shevchenko, and Ronaldinho!

The Fire do have some depth in defense... I wonder if they'd be open to any trade ideas...

I was sorta thinking we should see if we can get Stoichkov back.

Is defense really the problem with this team? The only defenders I'd want are Segares or Conde, and Chicago doesn't seem too keen on trading either player. And neither helps address our offensive problems.

The real questions are A) where are we struggling, B) who's available, and C) at what cost? The answer to A, IMO, is on the wing and upfront. As for B, it's a matter of looking at the talent sitting on another team's bench. Realistically, I think Scott Seally, Jeff Cunningham, Todd Dunivant, Jose Burciaga Jr., and Brad Davis are available. All could help this team, but the C factor is the kicker. What can we offer in return?

We have two first round draft picks, lots of allocation money, but not much in terms of players (beyond the starting XI plus a few key players like MacTavish and, umm, yeah). We could probably put together a decent package, but I don't want to see anything that smacks of desparation (aka the Dyachenko trade from last year). If we do trade for a player, I would hope that we are smart enough to ensure that it will actually help the team rather than make the hole deeper.

And, food for thought, what starters are expendable? I think Fred would be attractive as tradebait, but I don't think I could stomach seeing him go. I think Emilio would have been better bait a few weeks ago, but don't think he would command nearly as much since his current contract status was revealed and his play as of late. Dyachenko wouldn't be a bad player to dangle, but we would have to include something to make it worthwhile. Short of those few players, I can't think of anyone else that we could part with.

It's one of the problems, but I don't think it's the defenders who are primarily at fault. I'd look a soft midfield and the GK first.

I think we need to figure out how to play with what we have before we start making changes. Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?
