According to this tidbit at the bottom of the Sherringham article, we're still trying to offload Perry.

In other news, Fratton Park boss Redknapp could be ready to launch a bid for Tottenham defender Chris Perry.

The former Wimbledon stopper starred in a recent reserve clash between the two sides, and with Portsmouth relinquishing their interest in Argentine defender Juan Pablo Sorin, could look to Perry to add to their defensive ranks.

At this late point, I didn't think Perry would be going anywhere. Interesting. I wonder what the impetus of this is? Surely it's not a big fee, so I guess it's another wage bill move.

He was also linked to Villa - poor lad ;).

I'd rather keep him, at least until January. Never know what might happen. Doherty is ok to go, i think. He wants to go, and Cardiff want him.

"Portsmouth are not resting on their laurels, as despite their promising start in the Premiership they're looking at adding to the squad: Chris Perry of Spurs may be the next arrival."

Fansfc. It's speculation, but it's more of the same. Who knows.

Doherty move looking less likely, so maybe a Perry move moreso?

Probably, the need for a central defender is less now.. and the need for a full back or left midfielder is greater. Ian Harte or Konchesky i think, both are available.

We could definitely do with cutting at least one central defender. Perry is more expendable than Dohery as he's older, has passed his peak and his contract is ending this year.

We have 7 centre backs - Gardner, King, Richards, Mabizela, Bunji, Doherty and Perry. Then there is Ronnie Henry who is looking very promising in the reserves.

Yes, Perry makes more sense, but frankly, I'm not that high on Doherty. I think he's expendable. I do like Bunji though, and given the frailty of Spurs defenders, I definitely don't want to lose him unless we have a veteran replacement.

I wouldn't mind getting Zak Whitbread from Liverpool though. Full disclosure requires that I mention he qualifies to play internationally for either England or the US, and his US capability does make me biased. :D But, he's a big left footed defender who grew up playing left wing. While he's not the same level of talent, he's not too dissimilar to a John O'Shea in style, except that Zak has Gardner's size and is naturally left footed. All of the reports of him are consistently glowing. He just earned a first team number this year. I'm sure Liverpool wouldn't give him up, but seeing their quality, depth, and penchant for veterans, I doubt he'll see any playing time for them anytime soon.

Apart from Gardner the only left footed central defender we have is Bunji.... so I think we'll need someone. Marcel McKie is in the youth team and plays that side, but I think he's more of a midfielder than a central defender.

As for Liverpool, apparently they're dumping Traore and Vignal, their two left footers, so they might well be giving Whitbread his chance sooner rather than later. And if they don't, we could always nick him from them :D

Chris Perry in a sort-of loan swap for Konchesky.

We get him for a minimum 1 month, and they get Perry for the year.
