I think it's time (long past really) to formally work on some chants and songs for the 'Tex.

The one I mentioned in the Leones post-game was just off the top of my head, but I think it'd be a good one for after Gallardo makes a save:
Miguel Gallardo's in the goal! Hallelujah! to "Michael Row your boat Ashore"

Nick mentioned doing something to "Yellow Submarine", which is probably good since it's an easy tune

Who's the bastard in black (or whatever color the ref's wearing)!? or The (color) team sucks! are good anti-ref chants.

It'd be sweet to have a team song, but we can work on the easy stuff first. "delilah" is probably on the table b/c of Stoke connections, but personally I think Invincible (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7-moeVw_r_4) by Muse would be an awesome team song.

I mean you can't beat lyrics like:
During the struggle they will pull us down
but please, please let's use this chance to turn things around
and tonight we can truly say
together we're invincible

It was destined to be a soccer song.

Anyway, be interested to see what others come up with...

Don't know Spanish. Does that stretch the limits of 'acceptible language?' There's a lot of kids there.

Here's the song I'd prefer for the team song. It's very easy (I'd think everyone would know it), and we could just do the first verse.

The stars at night, are big and bright,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The prairie sky is wide and high,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The sage in bloom is like perfume,
deep in the heart of Texas,
Reminds me of, the one I love,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The coyotes wail, along the trail,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The rabbits rush, around the brush,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The cowboys cry, "Ki-yip-pee-yi,"
deep in the heart of Texas,
The dogies bawl, and bawl and bawl,
deep in the heart of Texas.

Hello everyone.. I'm new here, but thought I'd add my 2 cents to the discussion..

For getting started, I think simple is best.. If you want others in the crowd to pick up on the chant, you have to make it easy.. Few words, simple melody (if any).

There's some good simple ones that are common in the EPL (that anyone who has watched it on TV will likely recognize) we could adapt..

For example..

stomp
stomp
stomp stomp stomp
stomp stomp stomp stomp
"Austin!"
(the metal bleachers are good for this, and the crowd seemed to like stomping on them)

alternately,
stomp stomp stomp, "Austin!", stomp stomp stomp, "Austin!", etc

a somewhat more original idea: when we're about to take a free kick or goal kick, a stomp in unison with a 1 second pause, picking up pace as it progresses...

2 or 3 people doing these together could probably get the crowd to pick it up..

these might be a harder, but maybe after a few tries others in the crowd would pick them up:

"We love you Aztex, we do. We love you Aztex, we do. We love you Aztex, we do! Oh, Aztex, we love you!"

or to the tune of "Guantanamera":
"One AJ Godbolt! There's only one AJ Godbolt!" (insert whatever player you like with the appropriate number of syllables)

For anything longer, I think you'd have to stick with a song almost everyone is sure to know the words to, with maybe very slight modification.

I'd rather have half the crowd singing/chanting than a seperate group of 100 fans in the corner singing a long song with everyone staring at them (ala El Battalion/Texian Army). Sure, maybe that's fun for those singing, but I don't think it gets the crowd any more involved.

Again, just my 2 cents...

Good points all. I agree simple is best. At least to start. That said, "Puto" is about as simple as it gets. ;)

Here's a cute little ditty from the Soccer Songs & Chants website:
To the tune of Che Sera, Sera:
When I was just a little boy, I asked my mother, what shall I be?
Should I be Stoke? Should I be Vale?
Here's what she said to me:
Wash your mouth out son,
Go get your father's gun
And shoot the Vale scum
shoot the Vale scum.
We hate Vale, we hate Vale, we hate Vale.

Or:
Go home, buttmunch. Go home, buttmunch.

Okay, as for the real world...
Here's a couple of situational chants:

One-oh, Az-tex, it's one-oh Aztex. (as in yo-yo-heave,ho)

We're off to the U.S. Open Cup, and you're going home.
(Sounding like the Wizard of Oz at the start)

Or, the old standard:
Ale, ale ale ale, ale, Aztex.

And here's a couple of Arsenal songs, adapted:

Roll Out the Aztex,
We'll have a barrel of fun,
Roll Out the Aztex,
We've got them all on the run
Just one more goal now

You are my Aztex, my only Aztex,
You make me happy, when skies are grey...
You'll never know, dear
How much we love you
Please don't take
My Aztex away.

We definitely should have an Open Cup chant.

One question: Is ale, ale, ale Aztex supposed to be "allez"? I mean, I certainly have nothing against a good ale, but I wasn't sure if that was how you meant it to be pronounced.

I think it was supposed to be "olé" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bPJkN84ZPQ).

Barbaro
14 May 2008, 04:14 PM
Well, yeah, I meant it to sound like Allez, which makes a lot more sense. I could swear I've seen it written as alé, though, but never really thought about it.

I like the stomping idea. People do seem to like it.
Here's another variation, sounding kind of like "Let's Go Aztex." But I like "we are" better:

"We Are Aztex."
stomp
stomp
stomp stomp stomp

"We Are Aztex."
stomp
stomp
stomp stomp stomp ... (repeat forever, or until we score)

As promised, here’s a compilation of song and chant ideas (mostly already posted previously). Not overly inspired, but, as RW points out, if we have a core group of people doing something, we can probably get the crowd to join in. (Apologies for double-posting, but I'm putting this both here, and in the DFW pre-game forum)
To that end, I’d like to propose that we assemble behind the home bench, at least 20 minutes prior to kickoff (i.e. 7:10), and figure out what we’re doing.

---------------
We should take advantage of the metal bleachers; the crowd seemed to like stomping on them.

2 or 3 people doing these together could probably get the crowd to pick it up..

stomp stomp stomp stomp
“Austin!”

stomp stomp stomp, “Austin!”

stomp
stomp
stomp stomp stomp
stomp stomp stomp stomp
“Austin!”

alternately,
stomp stomp stomp, “Austin!”,
stomp stomp stomp, “Austin!”, etc

A somewhat more original idea: when we’re about to take a free kick or goal kick, a stomp in unison with a 1 second pause, picking up pace as it progresses...
Here’s another variation, sounding kind of like the “Let’s Go Aztex.” But I like “we are” better:

“We Are Aztex.”
stomp
stomp
stomp stomp stomp
“We Are Aztex.”
stomp
stomp
stomp stomp stomp

“We Are”
stomp stomp
“Az-Tex”
stomp stomp
“We Are”
stomp stomp
“Az-Tex”
stomp stomp

These might be a harder, but maybe after a few tries others in the crowd would pick them up:

“We love you Aztex, oh yes we do.
We love you Aztex, and we’ll be true.
We love you Aztex, we do!
Oh, Aztex, we love you!”

Roll Out the Aztex,
We’ll have a barrel of fun,
Roll Out the Aztex,
We’ve got them all on the run
Just one more goal now
Then how we all will cheer
1-2-3-4-5-6-7, and the gang’s all here.

You are my Aztex, my only Aztex,
You make me happy, when skies are grey...
You’ll never know, dear
How much we love you
Please don’t take
My Aztex away.

Something to “Yellow Submarine.”

And, a proposal for a semi-official Aztex song:
Deep in the Heart of Texas

The stars at night, are big and bright,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The prairie sky is wide and high,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The sage in bloom is like perfume,
deep in the heart of Texas,
Reminds me of, the one I love,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The coyotes wail, along the trail,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The rabbits rush, around the brush,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The cowboys cry, “Ki-yip-pee-yi,”
deep in the heart of Texas,
The dogies bawl, and bawl and bawl,
deep in the heart of Texas.

PLUS, some short takes, and a few random fragments:

Miguel Gallardo’s in the goal! Hallelujah! (to “Michael Row your boat Ashore”)

(To the tune of “Guantanamera”):
“One AJ Godbolt! There’s only one AJ Godbolt!” (insert whatever player you like with the appropriate number of syllables)

(to the tune of Santa Lucia):
Miguel Gallardo, Miguel Gallardo.
Miguel Gallardo, Miguel Gallardo.
Miguel Gallardo, Miguel Gallardo.
Miguel Gallardo, Mi-guel Gallardo!
(apologies to West Ham’s Paolo DiCanio)

Who’s the bastard in black (or whatever color the ref’s wearing)!? or The (color) team sucks! are good anti-ref chants.

One-oh, Az-tex, it’s one-oh Aztex
(to the tune of Yo, yo, heave ho)

Allez, allez allez allez, allez, Aztex.

Tornadoes Blow (or something; I don’t know, but I think we need some anti-Tornado, or anti-Dallas chant.

(to the tune of “Off to see the Wizard”):
We’re off to the U.S. Open, and you’re going home.

ROSTER (ripe for other one-line ditties):
1. Miguel Gallardo GK
2. Andy Taylor Defender
3. Zack Pope Defender
4. Kieron Bernard Defender
5. Beto Papandrea Defender
6. Ezual Lewis Midfield
7. Jorge Vega Midfield
8. Marcel Uriarte Midfield
9. Edgar Alvarez * Forward
10. AJ Godbolt Midfield
11. Andres Cuero * Forward
12. Craig Hill * Goalkeeper
13. Joshua Alcala Defender
14. Carlos Vicens Midfield
15. Westley Allen Midfield
16. BJ Olonilua Forward
17. Abdiel Amador * Midfield
18. Chris Spendlove Defender
19. Jamie Scope * Defender
20. Kevin Klaus Midfield
21. Austin Da Luz * Midfield
22 Martinez, Robin M/F
23 Watson, Jamie F
24 Fraser, Beau D
25 Turney, Cameron D
26 Guadarrama, Guillermo

Oh, and I forgot my current favorite: The conga line chant:
Be-to-Pa-pan-dre-a!
Be-to-Pa-pan-dre-a!
Be-to-Pa-pan-dre-a!
(needs drums to really work)

And, has anyone seen the Speed Racer movie yet?
"Austin Aztex, Austin Aztex, Austin Aztex, Go!"
(just try it a few times; you'll be amazed how catchy it is)

So I had a couple of ideas while watching the Dynamo lose tonight (*grumblegrumble*).

This first one is inspired by the Earthquakes fans who were singing something to "Oh My Darling, Clementine", so I made up another variant.

At a match in
Central Texas
We were having
A good time
Then a crap call
From the middle
What the hell, ref?
Are you blind?

Oh my god
Oh my god
Oh my god
Referee
You are blind and
Quite pathetic
Such a piss-poor
Referee

You can't even tell I'm a certified ref, can you? Next is based on a pretty common call-and-response used in marching drills. Lots of variations possible for this one, obviously, and with the call-and-response you can generally make them up on the fly.

I don't know but I've been told
(response)
Jaime has a foot of gold
(response)
Sound off
(1 2)
Sound off
(3 4)
Bring it on down
1 2 3 4 Aus-tin (skip a beat) Aztex!

Yes, I intentionally put Jaime. :) Another simple idea really meant more for coming up with acceptable variations:

Roses are red/Violets are blue (the common intro line)
-Hoovers suck/And so do you
-Greg Louganis dives/And you do too
-Three mice are blind/And so are you
-You suck! (surprise is good for a laugh)

Perhaps preface with a "Dear So-and-so". And, uh, I didn't mean for those to all be negative, so think of some positive ones.

And while I was looking around at some other chants, I came upon another common call-and-response:

Everywhere we go
People want to know
Who we are
So we tell them
We are the Aztex
Mighty, Mighty Aztex
We are the Aztex
Mighty, Mighty Aztex

Hey everybody

First I would liek to suggest two one word chants, one from the EPL and one from south of the border.

"Ole, ole, ole ole ole"

And from the EPL

"Oway oway, oway oway oway"

And here's a little song I made up myself based on the tune of Black an Tans

Come out you red an whites
Come out an fight tha good ole fight
Show um all how you can play
Top level football
Show them how Aztex win
Without commiting mortal sin
Against themselves or any of
The opposition. :)
