Dortmund win 2-1, fail to move on to the group stage after being beaten in a penalty shoot-out.
Goals: 1:0 Amoroso (3.), 1:1 Mendoza (27., dir. free kick), 2:1 Ewerthon (86., Fernandez). Corners: 11:2 (HT 3:0, FT 9:2). Chances: 13:5 (5:3 / 10:5).
Penalties: Amoroso (saved), 0:1 Simons, Bergdölmo (saved), 0:2 Ceh, 1:2 Koller, 1:3 de ************, 2:3 Fernandez, 2:4 Mendoza.
This is bad news for Dortmund and it all goes back to not being able to beat Cottbus. You can blame it on all the injurys they have had this year. I blame this all on Sammer.

Sorry to say it (because generally I pull for German teams in Euro competitions), but I experienced a heaping helping of Schadenfreude when Dortmund lost last night. I hate the way they try to solve all their problems by throwing money at them, so it's nice to see them fall flat on their face every once in a while.

It’s really unbelievable: Cottbus and 2x Brugge – Dortmund needed 3 games to burn 15 M Euro. Possible consequence btw is to sell C Metzelder to Real to compensate this hole.
I've got mixed feelings about this result. Dortmund truly is a team that knows how to acquire money, but the outcome is extremely poor (they are the NY Rangers of German soccer ;)). It's very good that Dortmund doesn't get further money, but of course it's not good for German soccer in general, and due to the German TV money for the CL now being divided under just two teams, the clear winners of yesterday are Bayern Munich and Stuttgart.

:) Unfortunately, I can't laugh too much, as the Flyers run a close second to the Rangers in this category (unless you count first round playoff exits as success).

Flyers should play with Dennis Seidenberg and they would at least fail with a cheaper team ;)
BVB shares dropped to 3.01 Euro this morning (16%), now they recovered a little and went up to 3.20 (still 11% loss)

I throw in my own opinion on that. To me Matthias Sammer has failed because he did not manage to build up a working team. his mentality is not compatible with that of the most players. The team plays too inconsistently, esspecially the contrast between the home and away games is frustrating. When playing at home they celebrate themselves on the pitch and in away games they play like a nervous team battling against relegation.
When the team stays in this situation a title becomes impossible this year. we shoiuld correct our season aims.

I can't even express the rage that I'm feeling right now. Losing in the Westfalen? Losing out on all that money for getting to the group stages?
