I have always wraped my laces once around the boot to get rid of excess laces. However, this puts a lot of presure on your arch (ouch) so I am looking for other ideas. Anyone? I know that in most pictures you can not see the laces of anyone playing professionally. What are they doing? I had heard to tie them around the ancle, anone tried this? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Bigsoccer Roo Boots-
I've tried tying around the ankle and it works okay. I just found that having shorter shoe laces seemed to work best for me.
You could try just buying shorter shoe laces, tucking the ends into your shoes or you could try one of these sweetspot bands that cover your laces

I think most pros just have shorter laces. They also have boots with asymetrical lacing so that the knot is not in the way.

I buy shorter laces too.

Cut em & melt em (the ends) with a lighter.
Melt them back to the point where they won't frey as most laces will have nylon running through them for strength which will melt and make a sealed end.

Ah.Thanks for the posts. What is a "short" length? Asymetrical laceing helps, but you end up with a clob of nylon under the tongue that isn't quite good for ball touch. I might try the burning, althought you are kind of screwed when you need to take the laces off. Thanks again all!

just cut em a bit longer then take off a bit more each time until you can just regularly tie them. dont cut them too short at first, keep tying them until they are where you want them to be...then melt the ends. thats how i do it.

Why do boot companies bother to make those long laces anyway? All they do is get in the way. ... I wrap my laces around my ankle by the way.

i'd rather wrap the laces underneath then around my ankles. Around your ankles puts pressure on your achilles.

There is a "one size fits most" concept going on. This allows the user to adjust to their own preference; and allows for more players to use the boot. I know multiple players with the same boot, same size, and different length laces---all self adjusted laces!

I wrap mine underneath my heel and secure with a sweetspot band.

is a sweetspot band essentially a Captain's armband?

How do longer laces make the boot fit better? Do you mean that they can make it tighter?

To clarify:
This means that someone with a wide foot can wear the same boot, same size, as someone with a narrow foot. They can adjust the laces for their particular size and comfort.

One more thing:
Think of it like buying clothes. You and a friend can both wear size 5 jeans. But you are taller. Your friend may need to adjust the length.

Being a coach, former college player and having a lot of friends who are athletic trainers I have learned that the two best ways are to have short laces or wrap them around the back studs on your heel. (just like you would around the middle but in between the studs and the back of the shoe so they are tight to the studs.) Having them on your arch can cause irritation to the arch and also is right over a major supply of blood in your foot. Around your ankle can cause irritation to the achilles tendon.

No, it's more rubbery.

Mine are long enough to tie around the shinguards. No more tape, no more having to buy sleeves ^_^ on my adidas, at least. On my vapors I just tie them regular. Sweetspots are ok, I don't notice that much of a difference. Besides, they rip pretty quick (at least the two pairs that I've had so far -_-* )
