Interesting paragraph:
For reasons likely to puzzle baby name experts around the world, American parents have become infatuated by names, particularly for their sons, that rhyme with the word “maiden.” These names for boys include: Jayden (No. 18); Aiden (No. 27); Aidan (No. 54); Jaden (No. 76); Caden (No. 92); Kaden (No. 98); Ayden (No.102); Braden (No.156); Cayden (No.175); Jaiden (No.191); Kaiden (No. 220); Aden (No. 264); Caiden (No. 286); Braeden (No. 325); Braydon (No. 361); Jaydon (No. 415); Jadon (No. 423); Braiden (No. 529); Zayden (No. 588); Jaeden (No. 593); Aydan (No. 598); Bradyn (No. 629); Kadin (No. 657); Jadyn (No. 696); Kaeden (No. 701); Jaydin (No. 757); Braedon (No. 805); Aidyn (No. 818); Haiden (No. 820); Jaidyn (No. 841); Kadyn (No. 878); Jaydan (No. 887); Raiden (No. 931); and Adin (No. 983). This startling trend was present, but less pronounced, with girls names: Jayden (No. 172); Jadyn (No. 319); Jaden (No. 335); Jaiden (No. 429); Kayden (No. 507); and Jaidyn (No. 561). Social Security spokesman Mark Lassiter indicated that the agency would resist any legislative efforts to standardize the spelling of these names.

I named my first Emily 17 short years ago.
When will we able to put Madison out of it's misery?

Emily has been on top for a long while now. Kind of a bummer, if my wife and I are lucky enough to get a girl, we want to name her Emily (after my long-suffering mom, who has been blessed with four sons and five grandsons and no daughters or granddaughters) but don't want to follow the pack. My son has a classical but pretty rare name -- Peter, #167 in 2006 when he was born.

Our first was Emily, before it was cool, and the our second was Margaret (Maggie). We both ended up thinking that she really reminded us of a Lucy, which is a name I really love but probably works for about 1 in a thousand Lucys.

Well, one of my girls kinda sorta hit that list. We named our twin girl Emilie (obviously spelled differently). That spelling has been in my wife's family for several generations. No idea how it came about though.
My twin boys name will most likely never see the top portion of the list. Trevor just isn't that common. Apparently, neither is my other daughters name, Caroline.

If the name has meaning to you, go for it. Don't worry about the lists. My little girl (born in January) is Emily. I didn't want a popular name, but Emily just seemed right. I couldn't be happier, despite the list.

The top list is always gives a good idea of what to avoid. As to the stupid ass names that were described in the paragraph above it will be interesting to see what the kids end up going by when they are in their teens to differentiate the "-ens" from their friends and others.
Made up names just suck period.

Me and the wifey are expecting a girl in a few weeks. Her first name will be Abigail, and we're leaning towards Jayden as a middle name. I didn't know either were all that popular in present times. I suppose we're lamer than we thought we were.

I've always liked Craig or Scott for a guy. Seems like those names have longevity. A girl would be lots harder. I like girly names like Katie, skyler, and others, but it seems once she gave up footed PJs, it would be silly.

I read something about ten years ago that rated names by negative reaction.
At the time, Neil got no negative reaction and Michael was second best.

Didn't King Lear have a Regan?
Yeah, but she was a slutty bitch (which worked out well, because she lusted after a real bastard).
Regardless of how I approach Lear, my students ALWAYS make Goneril=Gonorrhea jokes.
