I've been waiting to get an iPhone until a larger capacity comes out AND they get the 3G.
I've heard June and I've heard november? anybody heard anything?

Loads and loads of rumors abound on the internet regarding the 3G iPhone, most pointing to an announcement in June and release soon thereafter.
Here's one rumor. (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/05/06/atandt-blocking-out-june-15-july-12-for-3g-iphone-launch/)
And another one. (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/05/05/more-3g-iphone-photos-now-in-white/)
And another. (http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/01/case-manufacturers-getting-early-3g-iphone-size-specs/)
And just for fun, one more. (http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/28/foxconn-wins-3g-iphone-contract-3-million-units-shipping-in-jun/)
Pretty much everything points to something going on in the June/July timeframe.

Which is about when my contract ends... It will be between this and any rivals for my next phone.

macdailynews also talks about June as the rumored time. I would definitely wait a month - but after that it's a tough call. I wouldn't want to wait 6 months personally.
But 3G and space aren't all that big of a deal for me. A GPS might be cool which is also rumored.

A little bird told me to wait until December. I couldn't glean any more information than that unfortunately :(

It'd be nice if Apple came out with a phone that didn't have the iPod capability included. I already have one iPod, no need to pay extra for another one.

apparently AT&T has asked employees to not take vacation during a stretch in June.

Um - do you realize your comment sounds a little ridiculous? The point is to carry one device.

Apple is probably going to release the new 3G iPhones overseas slightly before their US launch; iPodLounge claims: 3G iPhone coming to Italy ‘next month (http://www.ilounge.com/)’ and predictably Apple is trotting out the shortage claim on units in-house; i.e., iPhone ‘Currently Unavailable’ at Apple Online Stores in US, UK (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/iphone-currently-unavailable-at-apple-online-stores-in-us-uk/).
It'd be nice if Apple came out with a phone that didn't have the iPod capability included... As dark knight mentions, I doubt you would want an iPhone without the iPod utility; the whole point of the device is to incorporate multi-media functionality. If just a phone is what you want, buy a cheap Trackphone for $19.99 at Value Village...

Yeah, but I use my iPod probably 2-3 days every week, so I'm not carrying it everywhere as it is. If I constantly had it with me, then sure, I'd see the need to combine, but it's not always at my side.
But I could real used to that touch screen and "tilt mode" or whatever it's called real fast. :)
Oh well.

You are strange. Let me ask you a question - do you keep your phone with you at all times?

I'm excited for the 3G iphone to come out so the price will drop on the current ones and I'll snag one (again, had one stolen :() then.

anybody seen anything on increased capacity? they're 8gb (mb? whatever) and 16 right now. I'm hoping these will be 32 or (god willing) 64.

I doubt it will be 64 - it's run with flash drives.

Yeah. They already have the iPod Touch, so there's obviously a market for the new iPod without phone capabilties.
I already have a 30 gig iPod with about 19.8 gig available. That's about 10.2 gig used. I suppose I could buy the 16GB model and essentially have two iPods, but with a portable satellite radio that I use as my primary souce of entertainment (walking around, car, at home) why have three portable music devices? (iPhone + satellite radio + 30gig iPod laying around at home) IMO, that's a bit too much overkill.
There is also the GSM buzz, but that's AT&T's issue.

Speaking from my experience, the iPhone is far more valueable as a phone than an iPod.
That said, I also think American consumers who buy a "music phone" from a store just because it plays music are retarded, as I have been doing that for years and years now with phones that take flash cards. My old phone wasn't a music phone, but with 2gb of storage space I could hold more mp3s than most "music phones" could (********** 6233).

If you'd like, I can send you an mp3 file of me banging my head against the wall.
One last time - the iphone enables you to eliminate one of the music devices you carry. Removing music capability from your iphone just so you can justify carry around another device is probably not a big motivation for Apple. If it makes you feel better, I have 3 ipods + an iphone, and none of them hold the 45 gig of music I have.
I am psyched that Itunes added HBO, because I want to watch the Wire, and I'm thinking of putting it on iPhone instead of buying DVDs and never watching them.
