Isolated tribe spotted in Brazil (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7426794.stm)
One of South America's few remaining uncontacted indigenous tribes has been spotted and photographed on the border between Brazil and Peru.

Cool article.

Do you think it is best to leave them in the stone age or should we bring them up to speed with the world? Should the government or UN go in and help them or wait till some missionaries make it there?

I say leave them alone. The less they know the happier they'll be.

Don't let the missionaries get there... unless they want an arrow through their face. I agree leave 'em alone.. its probably by choice they stay where they are anyway. There are still nomadic tribes all over the world. Last thing they need is people showing up and giving them Christian names and telling them about sin.

In other strange news. Japanese man finds woman living in his closet. (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20080530/tod-uk-japan-closet-b7e5c6f.html)

Also this is worth a laugh Chants of the season (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/funny_old_game/7400810.stm")

Random question ahead...

I was rewatching "All Quiet on the Western Front" and noticed in the school house that there is a portrait of Frederick the Great (I think) on the wall. It made me start wondering what portraits classrooms have on their walls now. Many US schools still have Washington, Lincoln, and the current President in the history rooms. Do English schools have Churchill on the wall? Does France have Napoleon or de Gaulle? Who does Germany have to look up to?

Germany can look up to:

-Kaiser Wilhelm I
-Otto von Bismarck
-Konrad Adenauer
-Willy Brandt

All of course, from a non-political perspective, all the great German writers, musicians, etc.

You aren't allowed to put anything on the wall that has not be approved by the company who owns the school and that has been fitted by a person from the company who originally constructed the school. So you don't have anything on the wall

My high school had one wall near the reception with photos of famous (and not so famous) people who'd been to the school, nothing in the classrooms, and no great political leaders. It had Bobby Charlton and Sir John Hall on it though, as well as Jayne Middlemiss, but you probably have no idea who that is.

Ya, I was wondering if Bismarck or Paul von Hindenburg would be up there. Has von Hindenburg been villified for his role in WWI and Hitler coming to power?

I love England's priorities...
In Canada, almost every school, Legion hall, and community center has a big portrait of the Queen. I would assume England has the same?

My wife is. I lived there for a few months in 2004 and again in 2007.

When I said "been to the school" by the way - I meant they were students there... not that they'd just stopped by for a visit. :D

We actually don't have portraits of the Queen all over the place... I can't really think of anywhere that has her picture up. We have her on our money and stamps and thats about it. I think its funny that the Queen never looks any older on them. Even the new £20 notes have her portrait from the 50s on them.

It'll be awful when we get Charles' ugly mug on them.

Nah, no one really blames anyone besides Hitler (and the general German population) for Hitler coming to power.

Interesting question about WWI though, don't know how Germans feel about that (to the extent that they point fingers at one person).

Nowadays I assume they all agree with Erich Maria Remarque (PLEASE tell me you've read Im Westen nicht Neues...or at least the English translation :D)
