I recently installed the latest version of flash player on my computer and since then can no longer get a picture on online streams. The sound is there but the pic is gone. Has anyone else noticed this?

This is some crazy shit...

The world's first cocaine bar (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/aug/19/bolivia-cocaine-bar-route-36)

Route 36 has turned La Paz, Bolivia into a hotspot for drug tourism, tempting backpackers from all over the world

I don't think the author visited the US in the early 80s. Definitely not the world's first.

I think I just read somewhere that 90% of all $1 bills tested recently had traces of cocaine, and an equally high number of credit card readers had traces in the strip reader.

Good job America!

Ya, but to be served by the staff, like a menu item... that surpasses all the stories I have heard.

"During Fiscal Year 2008 the BEP delivered 7.7 billion notes at an average cost of 6.4 cents per note."
"Of all the notes printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, $1 notes make up about 45% of currency production."

Wow, that would be 3,118,500,000 dollar bills with traces of cocaine... in just one year.

Mike Ashley in trouble for selling Hillsborough hate shirt (http://www.offthepost.info/2009/08/mike-ashley-in-trouble-for-selling-hillsborough-hate-shirt/)

Mike Ashley’s sports shop chain has issued an apology after one of its employees allowed a Manchester United fan to have customised printing mocking the Hillsborough victims on the back of his replica shirt. Colm Jackson had the slogan ‘YSB 96 NOT ENOUGH’ printed at the Sports Direct in the Arndale Centre, in Manchester (which oddly suggests he might be from the Manchester area).

That's totally a dude.

On an unrelated note, a brilliant blog entry (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/blog.php?b=6443) from Dan Loney on the MLS' real ambition.

First off, anyone else having trouble loading bigsoccer the last week or so? Every time I come here it's a pain in the ass to post.

While there are some parts of that article that are true, I have to disagree about the overall success of the MLS. Seattle's average attendance would be 7th or 8th in the English Premier League. Toronto sells out almost every game. The worst teams are getting low numbers in a bad economy, but that is because they have been run to the ground by absolute inept people (see Red Bulls). However, this can all change if they start winning, and many are still averaging what NBA teams average on a normal game, or NHL for that matter. The league is still growing, and friendlies like this help it along in financial and popular terms, but to say that the MLS is clinging to these friendlies to line the pockets of executives is a bit harsh in my opinion.

I see what you're saying but I don't completely agree. I mean, you get clubs like Dallas who the last couple of years were doing well in the regular season and they'd still get outdrawn by other clubs in their own building (see Houston games for particular). That's embarrassing by any standard. The point of the blog is that you can't just get people to go out to a Kansas City-Colorado game other than people who really love the game. It's just not at that level and the friendlies have to subsidize the league to an extent. At least for now. Maybe that changes, maybe it doesn't, who knows.

I had a great time at the Seattle-Barcelona game, for the record. And I only went because the Sounders were playing Barcelona. I wouldn't make the 10 hour drive for NYRB or TFC.

Traces of cocaine taint up to 90 percent of paper money in the United States, a new study finds.
A group of scientists tested banknotes from more than 30 cities in five countries, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, China, and Japan, and found "alarming" evidence of cocaine use (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/livescience/sc_livescience/storytext/mostusmoneylacedwithcocaine/33070378/SIG=123ntap80/*http://www.livescience.com/technology/060413_cocaine_a_lyzer.html) in many areas.
U.S. and Canadian currency (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/livescience/sc_livescience/storytext/mostusmoneylacedwithcocaine/33070378/SIG=11qu6ait4/*http://www.livescience.com/health/090724-money-pain.html) had the highest levels, with an average contamination rate of between 85 and 90 percent, while Chinese and Japanese currency had the lowest, between 12 and 20 percent contamination.

I was wrong it's all notes. Damn that's a lot of yayo. USA USA!!

True, the winning variable doesn't necessarily have anything to do with drawing crowds. You look at KC in particular and their attendance has been subpar since the outset. Yet baseball, the top flight league in the world, has trouble drawing in that market for small games as well. It takes the Yankees and Red Sox (not necessarily literally) to get big crowds. The only sport in this country that consistently gets sell out crowds is football, and that's because there are 16 games in a season and everyone is important and interesting. Let's be fair here too, the MLS regular season games aren't all that interesting because too many teams make the playoffs (although that is finally changing). Friendlies do subsidize the league to a certain extent, but I think the article is just misleading in how much and how important they are. And those friendlies do get people coming back to MLS matches. Maybe the retention rate isn't exactly what we'd want it to be, but there are still people who think, well we had a great time let's try another match or two in the season. The league is still young, it still has to build and I don't think the friendlies hurt it in that sense.

Also, a 10 hour drive is an outlier in this situation. The local markets are what we need to focus on, because even us, as huge football fans, aren't going to drive 10 hours for an MLS regular season match. However, if it's the semi-finals in the playoffs I bet you'd consider making that drive. A 1 hour drive, or a 2 hour drive is more within the realm of realism.

I'm still waiting for the "percentage of disposable lighters with pot residue on the bottom" study to come out.
