Reet lads the "New to NUFC?" information thread has gotton a bit out of date. I was thinking of sticking an FAQ section (for the benefit of your fellow yanks), things like "Why are Newcastle called the Toon?" etc. Anyone got any questions like that, that they think would belong in the FAQ? Doesn't matter if its a stupid question (in fact it may be preferable).

FAQs so far that I have come up with:
Why are Newcastle called the toon?
Why are people from Newcastle called Geordies?
Why do Geordies call "people" from Sunderland "Mackems"?

I'm sure most people don't read it... its just so its there really. Then if we get a stupid question we can point them in that direction.

There are new people that support us? What are they thinking? :D

Why is Newcastle called Tyneside? :D

Oh I'm having too much fun.

Haha I don't think we'll be taking on new supporters in the immediate future. Its more for the retarded questions that occasionally pop up from people confused by FSC's coverage. I'm tempted to add that to the list. I'll stick in a couple of Geordie translations too:

Gash: (polite translation) vagina. Now you know why I call him Gashley.
Howay: C'mon
Haddaway n shite: I don't think there is an English translation for this.

I don't usually plug my own work but this is pretty much the best game I've ever witnessed and we finally got video from the TV station on the final play.

To put some context:

The two region powers, Jerome and Minico, played to a 41-38 win in the state semifinals last Friday. Minico was the region champ, and Jerome was playing at Minico without its starting QB (a D-1 prospect) after he broke his arm in the quarterfinal game. Anyway, they stop the Minico running back (another D-1 prospect) on 1st, 2nd and 4th and goal from the 4 and get the ball back with 2:30 left (the kid had already run for 250 yards and 4 TD so it was kind of unlikely) down 3. They go 98 yards in the final 2:30 and score on the final play to win 41-38.

Video of the last play: http://www.kmvt.com/sports/34858199.html?video=YHI&t=a

Here's my reactions. First story is missing a transitional hook that didn't carry online for some reason, second is just a column. Enjoy.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, so I will give some context. I am watching Chelsea vs Arsenal and see the pregame line ups from FSC. Their Chelsea formation doesn't look the same as how Chelsea are actually playing.

So... what does the manager submit before a game that gives the officials and TV the line up? In baseball and basketball, we always used a card that just listed positions. Is it the same in the Prem or does it include formation?

They have to submit team sheets to the referee before kick-off (not sure how long before). To answer your question it just lists the 11 starters and 7 subs, it doesn't list their positions. All of the formations on TV are guess-work from the pundits.

Interestingly enough this season, this has been introduced as part of the "Get on with the Game" programme by the PL:

TEAM SHEET EXCHANGE
As part of the PGMO's directives for the coming season, the Team Captains and senior coaching staff member MUST be present at the exchange of team sheets in advance of every Barclays Premier League fixture. This opportunity will be used in productively developing the relationship between the Referee and the Team Captain. PGMO is calling on its Referees to work openly with the Team Captains to help manage the game by seeking their cooperation in helping deal with players in danger of receiving formal sanctions because of their behaviour.

TV monitors in the dugouts have also been banned (which I wasn't aware of until just now.)

Ya and didn't they screw up someone else on our team last season or two? I think they always put Zog as a midfielder.

I think they had Zog as a defender and Taylor as a midfielder. Could be wrong.

Holy f**ksticks... This is Nile Ranger the lad who's banging them in for fun in the youth team. We signed him from Southampton. Remember when I said there were rumours he thought he was a gangsta? WTF is the lad doing.

FIFA 09 vs Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

What should I buy? In the past, I have been a big fan of Winning Eleven, but heard FIFA really stepped it up in this version.
