Anyway so while I didn't expect us to make it out of the group of death in 2004 when the Czechs were on their prime I expected us to win at least against Latvia.

I actually was at the game against Latvia...

It was a very spontaneous thing. Me and my girlfriend booked a flight like two days before and got our tickets from a nice Dutch dude in front of the stadium who sold them for half the price (category 1) :D

Too bad the game was so horrible. Our reasoning was that against Latvia, we were bound to see lots of goals. I've hardly ever been that wrong...:o

Anway, if I was betting on the top scorer, I'd put my money on Gomez. He's had two fantastic seasons in a row now and I don't see why that should end at the EURO.

Well Germany had two very weak EUROs but 1994 and 1998 they had two very weak World Cups too.

True, for German standards, those were weak. But they still made it to the last 8 teams both times which I think isn't that bad.

Actually, out of Germany's 16 World Cup appearances, they only failed once to reach the last 8 which was in 1938 with a German/Austrian team where the players hated each other.

In Europe of course, the recent record is less than stellar. But I'm sure that'll change this time around ;)

This would have been my vote too, but his leg injuries are returning. He wont be playing in today's friendly against Belarus. Given the terrible form that Klose is in, Germany needs a fit Gomez to stand a chance of winning this tournament.

If I were a betting woman I'd go for Van der Vaart rather than Nistelrooy as topscorer.

Torres could rack up some goals in the group stages. Russia's defence can be shaky and the Swede's aren't quite as good defensively as they used to be. Spain generally play quite well in the group stages.

add in the facts that Torres will be Spain's figurehead and has been performing extremely well in the EPL and he could have a shot at top goalscorer.

the only problem that could scupper it is in the next round. where they will meet a team from Group C.

It's probably a good thing that you are not then...
