I play and ref in an adult league where my wife works, and I just got my ref schedule for the fall session. Through september I have exactly two days off. I either play or ref doubleheaders every other day. Yikes! I'm going to be busy and burnt out on soccer by the time the leaves change!!!

For anyone who referees high school and/or college in addition to USSF, I imagine that this time of year is extremely busy for all of us. My wife refers to the time from Aug 15 thru Oct 18 as the 8 weeks of fall hell because I am gone nearly every night and most weekend days.

My son still plays high school, so about the only nights that I don't referee are the nights that he plays. Many of the weekend events that he plays in I still referee. This fall, in those approximately 8 weeks, I have 48 high school games, 10 Div 1 adult amateur league games and 7 college games.

Combine that with 18 to 20 games for my son's high school and I think I only have 4 free evenings between now and the end of sectionals -- and those generally get filled when our assignor has last minute requirements for someone to pick up a game.

But she doesn't mind because we generally take the $2500 or so that I make in the fall and blow it on a vacation. This year I think we're going to St. Martin in November.

St Martin's sounds nice! I'll pick up around $750 or so reffing all those matches in September. I imagine my October will be roughly the same. Dunno what I'll spend it on. I've got $100 or so earmarked for a couple new fish for my saltwater aquarium, and $50 or so for FIFA '04 when it comes out in October, but that's about it. Maybe buy something nice for the wife. :-)

Well, reffed the first doubleheader last night. 94* and about 90% humidity at the start of the first match. Talk about a sauna! :-P

Now have to play a match tonight, ref one more tomorrow, and then the weather is supposed to finally break over the weekend. Whew!
