especially arsenal fans. I can see your point in the first line, but please justify the second. It is FAR easier to find a United "fan" who knows ************************************************ all about "their" team than it is to find the same for any other team.

I have never been to Old Trafford. But I am only 17 and live in Ireland (yes, I do plan on making a good few trips there from about 2 years on... when I'm at least in college). Does that make me a glory hunter? If so, I have a friend that supports Tranmere, yet has never been to their homeground... is HE a gloryhunter?
By the way, I am a huge ManU fan and have been since I can remember (1990 or so). I support the team through good and bad and follow their every move. I don't just view over match results and boast if we win/not think about it if we lose.

Billy Ireland's a glory hunter ! :p (only joking). I couldn't see any Blackburn games until the mid 1990's due to being in Germany and Hong Kong. Does that make me a glory hunter ?.

Judging by their success at that time... :D any argument that you were can be put to rest by the fact that you still are and (almost certainyl were) through their relegation-battling (and suffering) period. My reply was mainly to "rickbreese"'s
"Lets face it, it's only the Manc supporters who've never been to Old Trafford (like you probably) who do glory hunt."
quote which basically doesn't ALLOW me to support any team, unless they're in the doldroms

Well as you know I wasn't answering you when I said that comment, the vast majority of Irishmen support either United or Liverpool, and as you have every intention of going, and taking into account your age, that doesn't make you a glory boy. I know Man Utd does actually have real fans, but like Real Madrid it also has those who know nothing about the club, I've been to Old Trafford 9 times in 5 years (all Arsenal games apart from the Champions League Final) and that's more than most United "fans" manage in their lifetime.

I hate gloryhunters! The stigma you get off beign a ManU fan because of them is so irritating. I see where you're coming from rick, believe me... glad that got cleared up

O.K.
I'll enjoy this explanation : does being a gloryhunter's son , make one a glory hunter ?
i.e. My Dad has supported Arsenal since mid40's , since
A/ Arsenal gave Dinamo Moscow the best match in 1945 tour ,and that game became legendary in Russia
B/ Hapgood and James were only known English players in postwar Russia
C/ It was widely beleived ( not sure whether it is true or not ) that 1956 Russian team that won Olympics - played in W formation - perfected by Arsenal
I don't think that my Dad ever saw them play even on TV , but still gives a hoot about them.
He made me an Arsenal fan , since early 70's.
Translation , please .

Well if someone will pay for me to come to Old Trafford I will! Unfortunately I can't afford Europe except for my honeymoon...next July! I have been a Man United fan since I saw Eric Cantona on an EPL highlight show in 1996. I have been a Man United fan ever since!

Sorry, Manchester United stopped takign fan application in 1995... anybody that jumped aboard from after that time is a gloryhunter, surplus needs and not wanted... go back to Huddersfield!
Yes, that was indeed sarcasm (because some twat would otherwise take it literally)

Sorry to but in, er gloryhunting is the name given to people who follow teams and have no idea about them, they just like them coz they win trophies. Not a clever comment that really, was it?
Lets face it, it's only the Manc supporters who've never been to Old Trafford (like you probably) who do glory hunt.
i wouldn't be hanging around bigsoccer if i did not know anything about football or my team. arsenal wins trophies doesn't it??

So then, two questions
Have you ever been to Old Trafford?
I know Football has only become big in the US since 1994 (when the US amusingly tried to change the rules- hmmm) and so Man Utd have been the most succsessful club since then, but why choose a club just coz it wins - kinda definition of glory hunter?

HEY! WHAT'S WRONG WITH A LITTLE GLITTER ON THE SHIRTS!? AND SLIGHTLY WIDER GOALPOSTS!? AND DIANA ROSS KICKING A BALL AT AN OPEN GOAL AND MISSING!?

Not to jump in, but you obviously don't. Football still isn't big here. Bigger, yes, but Big? No. Basically, like any time a big sporting event like this happens, many new fans are brought in, but most of the country took notice of it while it was here, and went back about the norm once it was over.
(when the US amusingly tried to change the rules- hmmm)

I heard the oirish wanted to paint jerseys white if a player were catholic and orange if he were protestant, and that a shot glass should be hung above each goalpost to keep the players' attention on the field.

What are you trying too say? That americans arent allowed to like "sawkur". Im just kidding. I would say soccer is getting big here. Its big in the sense that there are alot more fans here than you think. Its not as big when you look at the percentage of people here who are fans. I would say it has a long way to go but it is slowly creeping up on hockey as the united states 4th biggest major sport. MLS teams draw almost as much per game as hockey does.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy getting on this board during the season and seeing all of the whinging and crying by Arsenal fans. A whole new flood today! But wait here they come again:
