I agree wth him though. He makes very good points. I really think Columbus and New England need to be moved.

I wouldn't pull the plug on Columbus just yet. If they can keep up the results they are having this year I think their attendance will continue to rise. I feel they are on the verge of a turning point. Just a hunch I guess. They've been bottom feeders for the last three years, but now they are winning again, and are actually exciting to watch.

I'm getting a little tired of Columbus always winding up as the punching bag. Especially coming from a fan of a club that just arrived at the party. Do me a favor... you wanna move something? Reach down my pants and move THIS.
You want to move something? Move the Red Bulls. Last year they only averaged 1,500 more fans per match than Columbus, in a much larger market, and they were 9-3-3 at home.
You want to move something? Move the Wizards. 11,586 last season.
You want to move something? Move the Dynamo. Only 770 more fans per match than Columbus last year, and they were on their way to a second straight title.
And I won't even mention that when Columbus was faced with either moving or building a stadium, they built a stadium. Something that no one else had previously done in MLS, including San Jose 1.0.

I like Kartik's and Dave's enthusiasm, but both of them are completely off their rocker about quite a few things.

The guy's just bitter about losing the championship-winning Earthquakes and getting an expansion team in their place. Some are more obvious than others, but everyone who writes something like this has an axe to grind somewhere.

I think Columbus will be fine too.
Their supporters could be more original though. Streamers...ok. The 'this is our house' chant was pretty lame after hearing the exact same thing from TFC fans.

I believe it's the Fusion that he's bitter about.

This is MLS soccer. This isn't the most popular product on the planet and as a result, there will be ebbs and flows and ups and downs when it comes to attendance. Relax.

The writer sounds like a huge fan of the early DC United teams. Were they really better than present MLS teams? It's hard to say since the competition was awful and the defenses almost non-existant. But personally, I would much rather have the present MLS--a league that shows signs of financial stability and and a long-term future. The late 90's MLS business model didn't have a rat's ass chance of succeeding.

At least they showed up, though. Can't fault them for that.

Correct. Franchises in MLS (or any sport for that matter) are moved because they don't make / aren't making enough money. It has nothing to do with butts in the seats.
The author makes a good point when he asks where the league sees itself in the future. I think he should have use something like "crossroads for soccer" as a title instead of putting "rough times" in there.
