Due to much backlash from the public, the NFF has decided NOT to use the new shield and will put the flag back on the chest.
Not happy.
What backlash and why was the public not happy; I think it's a great shield.

O....k, does that actually mean that what I said was wrong??
Well technically, yes. The UEFA branded numbers and font used by Zenit and Rangers is different from what Chelsea wore in Moscow.
I'm a graphic designer, and a font nerd, so these are things I notice.

They've played with the Norwegian flag on their chest for 80+ years and they put the new shield where the flag would normally be and then moved the flag to the back.
IIRC, it's actually come to be thought of that when you play for the national team, you play 'with the flag upon one's chest.' Or something along those lines.

IDK if Norway knows this redcard; but most countries have crests now especially in Europe. Save for Sweden and even that's a crest/flag.
You should get a petition going.

The Dutch national team have appeared in a rather compelling photo shoot for the newspaper AD and their European Cup supplement. Above, Edwin Van Der Sar in full mudwear regalia.
When the photographer for the shoot, Erwin Olaf, was asked how he described the shoot to the players, he said:
“That they would be portrayed as lust objects, that there were sexual and erotic elements and that they would be completely covered in mud.”
Mr. Olaf, your succinct and eloquent words on the importance of objectifying footballers has made us quite certain we would like to marry you and have your babies.
Olaf also said that the reason why the players were made to look like gladiators is because football is “war”.

I talked to people at subside and they confirmed that there will be uniform fonts for the UEFA cup and Champions league for all participants starting next year. So, apparently no more team unique fonts made by Nike/adidas/puma, etc. The reason why Chelsea wore the new font and United didn't in the final was because Chelsea were wearing their next year's kit.

i'm not surprised that UEFA is doing this.
however, i'm a bit disappointed. i liked seeing the manufacturer's unique fonts.
i wonder what kind of precedent this sets. i'd hate to see a standard FIFA font for the world cup.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm going to miss the unique fonts too, kinda gives the manufacturers some artistic licence.

the numbers are visible and easy readable, the letters suck (too tiny), non the less I like the "competition" font idea.
Most supplier fonts were crap anyway.
Puma had a nice font for the World Cup 2006, but now look at the current horrible stuff with the "lego" one or the too roundish one with "missing lines".
