Renfrewshire and Strathspey

What Scottish Premiership Football Clubs are closest to these counties? Just found out that I have some Scottish ancestors from these areas and this might help me to decide which SPL club to support.

Renfrewshire is the area west of Glasgow south of the Clyde. I think both St.Mirren (Paisley, 1st division) and Morton (Greenock, 2nd division) are both in that area. Certainly the matches between the two teams are called the "Renfrewshire derby". Greenock is now in what is called Inverclyde for purpose of local Government.

I don't think there is an SPL team in that area. The closest is almost certainly Rangers, :eek:

Strathspey is up in the north, around Aviemore (strangely enough, it is the area around the upper part of the River Spey). It is too rural to have a professional team. I would guess that the closest SPL team is Aberdeen, but that is a long way from there. The closest pro team is Inverness CT (1st division).

You must be up late tonight. Really, Rangers are the closest club. Where in Glasgow are Celtic? Make sure you read my post for Scottish members of this forum. Compliments for Scotland and questions about which club to support are enclosed.

Celtic are in the east end of the city, on London Road.

South of the river the closest teams to renfrewshire are St Mirren, Rangers and Queens Park, 1st division, SPL and third division respectively.
St Mirren in Paisley would probably be the closest, followed by Rangers, Queens park would be more of a trek.
Across the river there is Partick Thistle, they are quite close to that general area if I remember right, not been to firhill for years,and are in the SPL and Celtic are away in the east end about the furthest of all the glasgow sides from renfrewshire.
