I do/will, but I'll bet you guys still find a way to take points from us! ;) :D

Ah, we got Hertha's Chahed. So now we finally have both Sofien and Sofian. :D
Maybe Cherundolo's first real competition.

I'm crossing my fingers for a new midfielder now.

Ain't that bad of a signing I suppose, plus he can play DM if you really need him to. To be honest though, even now Cherundolo is a much better player.

I kinda doubt Cherundolo is "a much better player" than anybody right now.
He hasn't even been in 2. Bundesliga form lately and I honestly can't remember the last time he had a good solid game for us. I don't even expect anything out of the ordinary from him.
Another game like in Berlin and he'll get booed by the fans. He was already jeered in Berlin everytime he played the ball in the first half.

I know that Chahed is just solid, nothing more and never will be but it's a relief to actually HAVE a backup for Cherundolo now. Totally rediculous to even go into the season without one.

Chahed isn't solid. He's just solidly mediocre at basically every aspect of football IMHO.

But as some of you explained to me when I voiced my concern about the Leverkusen rejects, maybe that's "good enough for a club like Hannover....."

Well, that didn't take long. (http://www.hannover96.de/CDA/aktuelles/news/detailansicht.html?tx_ttnews[tt_news]=44635&cHash=96d4575822)

Well, it's certainly better than having no RB at all.
Why would a club like 96 who has a history of injuries even go into a season with just one RB is beyond me.

Well, Hecking had to go, not really because of the results this season but of the team he picked imo.

This being 96 I expect it's going to be either Becker, Geyer, Funkel or OMG Matthäus.

Surprised Hecking waited this long. But I think management wanted him to quit.

I'm thinking Slomka, Becker or von Heesen.

But yeah, maybe I shouldn't expect them to do so well.... :(

Yeah they certainly showed him the way out even if they didn't push him out completely.

Exactly my perspective, I believe Chahed is good enough to help Hannover improve from the level at which they are currently at.

On Hecking's resignation, it is for the better imo. If I was Hannover's management I would do all I can to try and get Slomka now.

I get that, but is he good enough to help keep them out of the bottom three at the end???

That is the question.

I think that's what they will try to do.

Problem is that Slomka is a good friend of Hecking, he won't feel too hot about it. On the other hand he likes Hanover and knows his way around in both the city and the club.

I think he would be good enough to keep them out of the bottom three, assuming he plays of course. But we'll see. If they get Slomka then I don't think they'll be involved in the relegation battle. If they get Matthaeus, anything can happen. Don't know who else is a serious candidate.

I think you guys put too much stock in that "best friend" stuff. Hecking wasn't fired, he quit.

Perhaps he did it so Slomka wouldn't have to worry about the "best friend" stuff if Slomka worries about it as much as fans do......

Sure, Slomka wouldn't go behind Hecking's back to get the job, but if I'm unemployed and a job I'm interested in comes open, it isn't going to matter that the previous guy was a friend of mine.

He obviously wasn't good enough and if he's a MAN, he'll understand that I'm trying to do a better job than he did.

If Slomka takes the job, I doubt Hecking would react like a teenaged girl who feels betrayed by her "BFF...."

So three games over and we had

a very unlucky loss in Berlin
a rather unlucky tie against Mainz, they pretty much only had two shots on goal
a totally deserved win against Nürnberg

Sure, none of these teams are expected to finish in the upper half of the table but it could have been worse.

I love Bergmann for putting Djakpa in midfield and Hanke and Forsell on the bench.
Djakpa has more offensive talent than pretty much anyone on our roster so it was a very logical move but I doubt Hecking would have made it.
Djakpa's pass to Stajner's first goal was a thing of beauty:
Nürnberg - Hannover Video - sevenload

Defense has been good, I mean in three games they allowed only about 8-10 dangerous shots on goal. Enke, who I have to say didn't look too good yesterday, didn't even have to save one Nuremberg chance. They allowed also much less shots on goal than Bayern did against Mainz or Gladbach against Hertha.

If we could somehow find a good attacking midfielder, I'd actually be really optimistic about this season but right now Schmadtke and Hecking pretty much screwed this season in re-signing Bruggink.

He's so bad, so one-dimensional, so slow. He slows the whole game down. As long as he's starting, things are going to bedifficult. The team pretty much always has to play a man down.

I hope they give Bermann a chance. All these "big name" trainers 96 always signed didn't work out so maybe it's time to try a different approach. Would be much cheaper as well.

The articles of the German-wide press after Hecking was gone were ridiculous. Full of malice and mockery. Who do we think we are in Hannover? The whole city is dreaming of the CL but we should just understand that we'll always finish 12th etc.

Noone here is dreaming of the CL, we're not delusional. We just want a little bit of progress. Not crashing out against a team from the 4th league in the cup would have been nice. Like I said, teams that have been to Europe recently:

*Freiburg, Bochum, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Mainz

I had made the comment many months ago that Hecking would be on the short side of the equation if Die Roten got off slow. The loss to Trier had to be the breaking point IMO and it was a matter of time of a short time before he was pressed to go.

Bergman did a fine match player selection for the Nürnberg encounter and I am glad to see that he saw the value of having Stajner start. Given this was against Nürnberg which will likely be battling relegation at season's end. However, Hannover has faced that spectre more often then not since returning to the BL1 in 2002.

This is why I agree with many here concerning Slomka. He did a good job with Schalke and was hard done by the Schalke management. (I would have expected anyone to have difficulty with Rudi Assauer. Yet, he was out of the picture. His mentality must be ingrained in the organization.) I think he could be the one person to move Hannover towards competing for a Euroliga spot and away from the mediocrity of midtable finishes or relegation battles. He has a very good tactical mind, has the player's respect and knows how to develop younger talent (AKA-Manuel Neuer).

Matthäus is to much of a mixed bag or questrion mark. He never seems to finish what he starts as exemplified in his management of the Hungarian National Team and at Rapid Wien. I liked him as a player, just doesn't seem to have it on the managerial side.

Putting things into perspective; I felt the same about Peter Neururer as I do about Slomka. His ability to get Bochum into Europe impressed me and it came down to the failure of the management to bolster the club that contributed to his downfall the following season.

I thought Neururer would do well at Hannover due to the similiar characteristics to Bochum and better players. Wrong!

Until a decision is made. We are all just guessing . . . .

Again a very good showing but if you miss so many chances you won't win.
Almost identical to the Hertha game.

Unlike last season they didn't have bad game so far, defense has been good again but unlike last season we also have trouble scoring goals, it's so frustrating.

Now that our defense doesn't suck anymore, our attack does.

I really really hope that they sign another striker and/or midfielder before the window closes, if they don't, every other game will look like this.
