You have much to learn newbie ;)

Actually newbie you have much to learn. I will not take anything away from CRonaldo because he is worthy of the majority of the praise he receives. Giggs on the other has always displayed certain characteristics with regard to class, leadership and maturity that Ronaldo hasn't really shown me much of. To top it off, Ryan Giggs has always been a helluva versatile winger. Much less flash than Ronaldo but just as much function.

there's a difference between being injured and having a bad season, because when he is on the pitch and healthy he is clearly one of the best in the world if not the best. And as for your question what has messi done, go back and watch his performances before he got injured.

Couldn't agree more, must be a full moon.:D

he plays good but a good player doesnt get hurt that much.

Please read what you posted and think about it for just a second. How does ones ability on the pitch translate into a players ability to override genetics? By your logic, players such as VanBasten and Redondo were overrated and not that good.

With all that said, I feel that Messi, Kaka' and Ronaldo are equals with very little in terms to separate them. What will always hold Messi back compared to the other two is his inability to get consistently healthy. One othe area I have questions about with Messi is to whether or not he really has that fire in his belly to be one of the greats. I look to his performances against ManU to form my opinion. Even in the physical state he was in, a truly great player would've gone balls out and left if all on the field. Messi never did this nor did he ever come across as fighting to touch the ball every time. Sometimes to be great, especially while your team is in a bad way, is to get selfish and lift your team on your shoulders. Messi has the talent, but with me that was never a question mark.

You don't address the point though, would you rather have C. Ronaldo on your team or a 28 year old Giggs? I never said anything bad about Giggs, but taking him over Ronaldo ANY DAY OF THE WEEK is a little much to say. It also depends on whether you're taking Ronaldo's potential into the equation. If so, he clearly beats a 28 year old Giggs. It's all opinion in the end, no need for insults.

First of all don't get your panties in a wad, no one insulted you. I generally try not to use potential when comparing two players, I take what they are doing presently. Yes Ronaldo is an outstanding player but Giggs at 28 brought more to the game cerebrally than Ronaldo has shown an ability to do at this point. He may but I'd rather see it and then praise as opposed to maybe's and mights. Long story short, I'd take Giggs to start my franchise over CRonaldo any day, what you see from Giggsy is pure professionalism and outstanding wing play. I really get the impression you haven't seen nearly as much of Giggs than you have Ronaldo.

Being called a newbie isn't exactly a compliment.

Anyway, I think it's too difficult to properly compare the current C. Ronaldo to a Giggs from 6 years ago in terms of importance and influence especially considering how much time Ronaldo has to improve his game. It would be better to ask the same question when Ronaldo is 28.

Oh please Jimi. In post 23 you referred to another poster as a newbie. Get a grip:rolleyes: That said, you've only been watching the game since the summer of 2006 so in essence you are a newb. No big deal, you'll in time game much more of a knowledge of the game and an appreciation for the players you didn't see until too/much late/r in their careers. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings will you forgive me?

That was club football. That being said, my first exposure to the beautiful game was (technically) during the 2004 Olympics so that's only 2 years better :D. I'm not stupid enough to hold a grudge for being called a newbie.

No grudges it is, Cheers! It's not really fair to talk about Giggs with regards to international exploits but I do respect him for sticking with Wales. That is but one of the intangibles about Giggs the pro that I admire so much in him. And again he was a very skilled player that stuck to the meat and potatoes without worrying about the flashy garnishes. I'm off to smoke a bowl and get to bed. Cheers.

Nah, I believe Ronaldo can eventually surpass him but Giggs in his prime was damn near unplayable at times.

The penalty miss aside, Terry was superb throughout, probably my MOTM for the 120 minutes before the shootout.
