This is causing quite a stink in the region. Russia, which obviously thinks the rest of the world is made up of fools, has claimed that it wasn't a Russian Mig-29 but an Abkhaz L-39.

I found that rather funny too that Russia says it wasn't a Mig-29 even though the profile matches one perfectly. :)

It's obvious that Russia won't let Abkhazia fall out of her sphere of influence. And not surely after kosovo and the planned aggressive expansion of nato towards east.
ethnic abkhaz don't want to stay under georgian rule so it's hard to be sympathetic to georgia's POV.
I would all be for the respect of the principle of territorial integrity if it was a general rule and not a convenient tool in the geopolitical chessboard.
