I like the cup competitions we've run previously... any form of cup competition puts a premium on each week's performance and should keep managers interested. Those who are uncompetitive in the league are free to make more transfers since points aren't deducted from cup results and this does balance things out, since managers trying to balance cup and league can't transfer as freely. I would prefer to avoid anything that involves any kind of high-maintenance, time-consuming setup... it's one thing to do a live draft for preseason but I don't have more than a few minutes a day to devote to this during the school year so would not be able to participate.
How about two groups of five, top two in each go through to semis?
Or eliminate the 9th and 10th place teams as they are inactive and have the remaining 8 in a knockout style cup?

I'm assuming that there's no restricition on buying players who transfer within the premiership? Not that there's been anything of real interest in this category... Berkovic maybe, but he seems overpriced. Still, might be some interesting stuff in the works and since they're not actually new to the prem, I propose we leave these players as fair game.

I would say players moving from one premier league team to another are fair game.
It's those coming in from the outside that we need to hold off one.
Examples:
Berkovic = fair game for anyone now
Bocanegra coming to Fulham from Chicago = part of the new draft. Hands off.
Others agree/disagree?
Agree.
And we do the draft after the transfer window closes and players have been added to the database.

I thought of a better suggestion.
First place through 6th place get a bye.
First round
7th plays 10th
8th plays 9th
Second round
Eight teams remain in a knockout style cup. These could be two legged affairs.
Continue through to a final.
What do you think?
1-6 having a 1st round bye works for me. I don't mind having to play a team with an inactive manager. Just makes the humiliation so much more when he beats me. lol

I was thinking the same thing.
The ghost of Michel will haunt us.
Hell Postiga will resurface and score ;)

Mark, bummer about Hasselbaink being on the bench this week. Ouch.

I know, he has hardly played recently so I dumped him to the bench, that sums up my season.

Thanks for the update Hal.
First round of new competition is this weekend.
(7th) Aviators v (10th) 1800 World Cup
(8th) Kopite Juniors v (9th) New York United.
The other six teams have a bye.
These two matches are one leg, single elimination. Winners join the other six teams in a last 8 contest. That contest will be played over two legs.
I'll create a new web site for it tonight when I get home from work.

I flat out sucked. I did pick Kessy Keller (in the sellar) and Jussi (just not this week) Jaaskelainer for keepers.

It'll be interesting to see how the Saha to ManU transfer affects my closest chaser, W Connections. I figure it's gotta mean less playing time and fewer points from him overall, so I probably caught a break.
With Solskajer ready to play reserves next week, and Forlan having a better season, I'd see those three in some sort of platoon.

I've decided to splurge and spend some of the 4 mill I've got earning me no points each week on Nicky Butt. Milner goes (Leeds = Kiss of Death) and my fortune to waste on further speculation drops to only £2.7 mill. Now watch Butt transfer to Spain...

New cup looks good, I certainly agree we need something to keep the week-to-week interest up.
I've made a transfer for anyone who cares:

Stinkin Chelsea!!!
1. Their loan agreement won't let Forssell play against them. Scratch one starting striker.
2. They've unsettled Parker with their swoop bid. Scratch one starting midfielder.
and
3. Leeds decides to get cute too and give Viduka a day off for personal reasons. Scratch another starter.
Forced me to make two more moves this week lest I loose in the new Cup to what is ostensibly an unmanaged team!
Now you all leave Whittingham and Viduka alone until I reacquire them next week.
Of course I'm gambling that Sir Alex gives Kleberson a start two weeks in a row, instead of Fortune, or Ronaldo. Hope I used the correct crystal ball for that pick.
LOL
I spend 8 points and some saved salary value to acquire 2 non-players. Best (worst) decision I've made this year. To cut my losses, I've reacquired Viduka and Whittingham, dropping Camara and Kleberson at a cost of another 8 points.

News over here is that Viduka will be gone for a while as his father is seriously ill. Eddie Gray said in an interview that "some things are more important than football" so he might be gone for more than a few games. Stinks about Forssell though; all I can complain about is players underperforming... but at least they were on the field!
