Why are you a Galaxy fan?

I have been thinking about that lately and I realize it is because I live in Southern California.

Why are you a Galaxy fan?
Did a friend get you into?
Did a family member?
Was it because of Beckham?

Im just interested in what makes a Galaxy fan become just that, a Galaxy fan.

Becuase I didn't have a choice, my dad is G's, and now my nephews are catching this wonderful desease

LARS stole my wife and child, and fed me heroin until I needed them to fuel my addiction.

Incidentally, this happened right after WC2002, where I became addicted to soccer.

Why are you a Galaxy fan?

Well where I now live there was only 3 serious choices, (I live in the Visalia area now, was born in Scotland) Galaxy, Chivas and San Jose. I am more likely to be in the LA/OC area more often than SJ so SJ was ruled out right away! I looked at both clubs and made a decision based on where I would feel more comfy going to games, with Galaxy fans or Chivas fans, from that I chose Galaxy.

Did a friend get you into?

No, Believe it or not I came from a country that Soccer is the #1 sport. I needed no coaxing too become involved with the Galaxy. I have however tried to introduce Americans to the Galaxy (2 in fact, one is a Basketball guy who supports the Lakers and another who is a Baseball guy who supports the Angels)

Did a family member?

See above, my family members are all in laws and all Raiders fans! Little chance of them introducing me to a sport that they have little comprehension about!

Was it because of Beckham?

Certainly Beckham is a big attraction with him being British, but in all honesty, I would have supported the team regardless of who was filling the jerseys. No player is bigger than the team but I would rather the team was filled with 11 players that played "blood and guts soccer" and we had a good honest performance than paying to watch 11 superstars go through the motions. Certainly the latter would be more pretty but it just isn't soccer.

When I first moved to SoCal from England in 2005, Galaxy just sort of became my team by default. Living here, I knew I had to support an LA team - I'm very passionate about supporting your local side. Being non-Hispanic, the Chivas thing just never appealed, and my wife's uncle is a HUGE soccer fan, and has supported Galaxy since Day 1 of MLS, so it was really a no-brainer. He was the one who took me to my first Gals game at HDC, and from then on I was hooked.

I'm proud to say I'm a pre-Beckham Galaxy fan, and my Galaxy shirt is gold and teal, not white and blue. This way I don't feel like a bandwagon jumper ;) Although, of course, I'm very pleased he's playing for us, he's not the *reason* I support them. I would like to think I have more integrity than that!

I have both jerseys, but neither of them have a name or number on the back because I do not want to show favoritism. I became a fan because my dad got me into it and because I live in socal my entire life. Fan since 96, or what I can remember of it.

Yeah, and the funny thing is, I've still never been to a Frankfurt Galaxy game. I dont think they'll ever come back to LA. You can find me at Galaxy games because I'm the one with the Frankfurt Galaxy hat.

I'm a Galaxy fan because of my deep admiration of "hardcore" fans like the OP who spends his time ragging on our great supporters group that brings it every single game and drives the team onward. I'm a Galaxy fan because I like how the OP denigrates most other Galaxy fans as not good enough for his high standards. :rolleyes:

Born and raised in LA. Was a ballboy for the LA Aztecs. Loved soccer, missed soccer, loved it again when MLS brought pro soccer back to LA in 1996. Never let the fact that I had moved to San Diego in the interim get in the way of becoming a supporter. Now I am brainwashing my children, converting clients and generally preaching the gospel of the Galaxy throughout SoCal. At this point my wife would probably prefer that my hobby was internet porn, because at least then I would be home more and have fewer ugly teal soccer garments in closet.

Oddly enough, I too have never made it to a Frankfurt Galaxy game.
