Stuttgart vs Kaiserslautern 2:0
1:0 Cacau (8 Heldt)
2:0 Soldo (14 Heldt)

Oddly both goals were corner kick – header – goal. Stuttgart dominated the game and tried to help Kuranyi scoring his first goal of the season after the secure lead. Kaiserslautern was harmless, never endangered VfB. Goalie Hildebrand still is without goal against; Balakov replacement Heldt already has four or five assists meanwhile.

Frankfurt vs Berlin 0:0

Poor game. Hertha remains the team with most shots on goal and despite of that the only team without goal.

Freiburg vs Mönchengladbach 4:1
1:0 Bajramovic
2:0 Bajramovic (28 Coulibaly)
3:0 Zeyer (34 Cairo)
3:1 van Lent (68 Aidoo)
4:1 Iashvili (80 Kruppke)

PK: Ketelaer misses (41)

Freiburg took all three chances of the first half and then had it easy to carry the win home. After Gladbach missed the second straight pk within eight days, Coach Lienen substituted twice in the first half.

Bremen vs Schalke 4:1
1:0 Charisteas (13 Ailton)
2:0 Borowski (28 Davala)
3:0 Ailton (35 Micoud)
4:0 Haedo Valdez (81 Micoud)
4:1 Agali (82 Asamoah)

Werder once again with a top performance against a top team (at least on paper) and a win that could have been higher. 19 year old Paraguayan Nelson Haedo Valdez scored his first Bundesliga goal, Ümit Davala collected his first scorer point. Werder climbed to the top position for the first time since matchday 33 in 1995 unless Bayern wins with 3 or more goals difference tomorrow.

1860 vs Wolfsburg 1:0
1:0 Schwarz (59 Schroth)

Yellow-Red: D’Alessandro (39 - yellow for complaining and the second yellow immediately afterwards as he applauded the ref for this decision)
Red: Borimirov – Franz (63 both for misconduct)

A 30 yard hammer beat ex-60 goalie Jentzsch and decided this mediocre game. Shortest appearance: Borimirov needed 9 minutes in the game until his ejection.

Bochum vs Leverkusen 1:0
1:0 Madsen (64 Zdebel)

A game determined by odd ref decisions: in the first half he refused a pk for Bochum, in the second both teams got a 100% chance called away; additionally Bochum’s goal was scored in a clear offside situation. Bochum evidently was the superior team – as in Frankfurt two weeks ago, Leverkusen showed their ugly face on the road after a brilliant home game. Bitter: Lucio had to be substituted with ankle injury, diagnosis tomorrow.

Cologne vs Dortmund 1:0
1:0 Lottner (57 direct free kick)

Deserved win for Cologne against a weak Dortmund. Obvious remains that Cologne does not score in playing situations, but needs Lottner’s free kicks. Goalie Weidenfeller avoided a higher loss for Dortmund.

1987/88 Bremen
1997/98 Kaiserslautern
2001/02 Dortmund

have one thing in common - they were the only three without goal against after 4 games + all finished the season as champion. Stuttgart now is the 4th team in Bundesliga history without goal against after 4 games - if you believe in stats, place your money on Stuttgart :)

Hamburg vs Bayern 0:2
0:1 Pizarro (13 Sagnol)
0:2 Elber (78 Ballack)

Yellow-Red: Benjamin (52)

Bayern once again scored with the first shot on goal and then carried the win home more or less safely. HSV-Coach Jara cut the chances for his team himself by not substituting the very ejection endangered Benjamin until it was too late.

Hannover vs Rostock on Wednesday

That's absolutely right. I was OK with keeping Benjamin in through the first half, but Jara should have counted his lucky stars and brought on someone else for Benjamin in the second half. I thought it a 50/50 proposition that he'd survive the game, and that's just too high a chance to take.
