Who's your player of the year and why?

Sam Allardyce.

I've gone for Michael Owen. While he's not been the most consistent performer over the season, he has been the driving force behind our resurgence towards the end of the season that put our fears of relegation to bed. I started this season as a big critic of Owen, but the leadership he's shown as captain recently and the adaptations he's made to his game have really impressed me.

Very close second place would go to Habib Beye (best signing of the season without a doubt). With honourable mentions to Nicky Butt for his consistency over the season and his textbook DM performances, and James Milner for always giving 100% when all around him had long since given up.

Worst player of the season - Alan Smith.. I don't think anyone would argue with that?

I went for Habib Beye because he settled very quickly to become our most consistent performer. For a foreign player to settle in so quickly is amazing. He's outstanding getting forward and in defense and doesn't miss an opportunity to get stuck in. I also think he's much better in KK's setup playing with the ball at his feet opposed to playing more early balls under Big Sam. The former L'OM captain appears to be a natural leader as well and I would be very happy with him as the skipper next season. IMO he also has become the 2nd best right back in the Prem right behind Sagna.

Two players that I don't think played very well the first half of the season (and part of the second) have really turned it around in my eyes and deserve some recognition. Micheal Owen and Nicky Butt.

Butt, Beye and Owen are really the only three worthy of being in discussion. That said, Beye's brought it pretty much all year and thus he gets the nod for me.

Wow...I'm with Russell but the opposite. :D

IMO Beye has pulled for the whole season, even under Fat Sam, which puts him over the top for me,...and makes me think of getting next years kit with his name on it.

I am one of those annoying undecided voters...

What about Milner? Have we forgotten him just because he has been injured during our resurgence?

Milner didn't do enough when he was fit to warrant being included in the discussion, if you ask me. All he did, pretty much, was run hard the whole 90 and put in a decent cross every third game.

I also think Faye has been outstanding as well and it's a credit to a CB that your name doesn't come up very often. Some Bolton supporters claim he's the reason Ben Hiem looked so good.

I am shocked that Faye is playing so well. None of us wanted him or rated him when the transfer was announced. Is he good enough that we shouldn't look to replace him in the summer?

Faye's been allright for someone we didn't think was really a centre back. I remember how easily McFadden turned him for Birmingham's goal though. We've got a settled back four now with Butt breaking up play in front of them. I still think we need another CB though in the summer.

I like the "Do ya Wanna" by Franz Ferdinand version Meself...:

"Well do ya, do ya, have a Habib?
Well do ya? Do ya have a Habib, Habib Baye?
Cos I’ve never seen one before."

I didn't get to vote, but I would have voted for Beye as well. The runaway winner. As others said, he came in settled quickly and I don't remember him putting a wrong foot forward at all. For the whole season, under 2 different styles a playing for me he was the one that stood out.

As someone mentioned earlier, I think Keegan's style suits him better and I think our right rear guard is covered for the near future. Class act as well.

Steve Harper, despite not being our star player, I think deserves a mention. He has made no mistakes and organises the back for twice as good as Shay does. We concede more with Given then with Harper, I think that warrants a mention.

Steve does indeed deserve a mention... in fact he's the only NUFC player to make it to the Yahoo sports team of the season. (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/12052008/58/premier-league-team-season.html) While this isn't exactly scientific (like the Actim index) its based on reviews of players in papers and averaged over the games they play. But it does have the advantage of giving an average rating as opposed to a cumulative one.

I'm still not convinced he's better than Given though if Given gets back to his best. I'm glad we have two top quality keepers though and Harper should get a call up for England in my opinion. Hands up who thinks Joe Hart or Chris Kirkland are better than wor Steve? Didn't think so.

Where does that come from? This season?

I would like to see fair competition for the #1 shirt this summer. No place for sentiment now the only thing that matters is performance.
