Seems like we only sign talents this summer.
Striker Torsten Oehrl (22 years) comes from Greuther Fürth
and signs a contract until 2010. He will play for the reserve.

Well HELLO! I can't tell you how happy I am to be here :D! I apologize firstly for hijacking this thread for my own purposes but there doesn't seem to be a thread for introductions in the Werder sub-forum, therefore I chose the busiest place.
Hi WinniWerder, I enjoyed reading your story!
I came here to see what's happened to that quality striker Werder was hoping to sign, but apparently that's been called off?

called off?? by whom? btw: we alredy have not 1 but 4 quality strikers. that's enough to win the title.
Besides that there are rumours that we'll be signing a new forward in the near future. Contrary to other teams all rumours so far are bogus and none of us will know who's it gonna be until he's signed his name under the contract. That's what good management is about.

I think he meant the guy from Bolivia, who wanted to come,
but then prefared to see the Rubel (ok, ok, he went to Ukraine) rolling.

it looks like Valon Behrami is a target for us. Only one source has said something about it (the sun) and everybody copies it so i'm not so sure yet. It would be a great buy to replace Boro. He said he wants to play in germany and in the champions league so that leaves WoB out of it. Bayern said they wont be too active this summer, schalke will get engelaar, so it makes sense that he comes to us. Some sources say Werder is reaching a deal with Lazio for 4mio others say it will be close to 10mio. We'll see, he will decide next week.

Bahrami will cost more than 10 million I think. Everton were after him and they were saying 10 million POUNDS.

Tsk tsk tsk, you forgot that Everton has to pay the "Sorry, we will never ever play in the Champions League" surcharge.

True. Everton aren't in Germany either :D

The Ricardo Oliveira rumour seems to heat up again. Both PSG and Werder are interested. Werder is appearently offering 3 million € salary and a transfer fee of 15 million €. PSG wants to get a loan deal.
According to spanish media Saragossa refuses for some reason to talk to these clubs (yet). But both clubs are in contact with Oliveira's agent - according to the agent.

Ricardo Oliveiras consultant is quoted in the past in the El Periodico article, so I´m not sure whether the rumour is recent or not.

And Valon Behrami will - supposingly - only cost about 4 million Euros, because I read about him making use of paragraph 17.

During the Euro final one of the analysts mentioned a possible Mertesacker move to Milan. Is there any evidence to support this? Besides the obvious enhancement in his resume I think loyalty to a club that he excels with would leave $$ as Milan's only leverage. What kind of contract does he currently have with Bremen? After watching him play for the last four years I believe he is top 5 CB in the world and would hate to see him go to the Serie A of all places. Let me know, please and thank-you.

No worries. He's recently extended his contract until 2012.

Overall he seems to be a very loyal player and he has stated several times that he doesn't intend leaving Werder anytime soon.
He actually laughed at the question whether he would like to play for Bayern now that Klinsmann is in charge.
Merte is a Bremer.

Ok so apparently Werder aren't after a top striker, fine...
But at least they should strengthen the midfield. Boro is gone and we have a huge void to fill...
Are Werder linked with any midfielders this summer?

Press linked Werder with Behrami from Lazio
(management denied) and some Brazilians.

it will be a disappointment if we don't sign Behrami. But i'm sure there's interest from both sides.

I've only seen him a few times but he's never really impressed me to be honest. His stats for Lazio are disappointing (I know they are just stats).
The question is whether we need a new midfielder?! If nobody is injured the natural starters are Jensen, Frings, Baumann and Diego. Behind that the first challangers are Özil and Hunt who are probably the 2 most skilled talents in Germany at the moment. After 10 days of training and two test matches you might get the impression that Schaaf likes what he sees in Husejinovic and Bargfrede. And there's always Vranjes who's a good option as a substitute when the game allows it.
I think Werder wanted Ramires but he's just too expensive at the moment but since there's no urgent need the management sits back and waits until something goes with Cruzeiro.
But my guess is we'll sign a striker in late August (maybe not even that if the coaches deem Testroet to be BL ready) but no midfielder this year.

yeah i agree with you, but in the last years we've had so many injuries that (quality ) depth becomes a concern for me. I have no problem with our team if we stay healthy but i think we will receive at least one more player.
I'm also very excited to see Testroet develop.

Behrami can also play RB, and with Owomoyela gone, that could be a good idea.
Werder doesn't seem to play with a lot of width in their midfield (i.e. their "wingers" are not very wingish at all, and seem to drift inwards more), well Behrami gives them the tactical option of going wide if they need to. I don't see how 4 mio euros for Behrami is in anyway a bad investment.

yeah after all the money we received it seems like we do nothing with it. Behrami looks set to go to west ham. At least we should extend some contracts
