Following his comments around the new year time about taking time out of the game sometime and his hints at depression etc I personally can't see him as Reading manager next season whether we stay up or not.
Some good lower league managers around if we need a new appointment over the summer. Gary Johnson would be very high on that list for me.

I agree that Steven, no matter what, won't be back next year.....By the way, it was when he made those comments, around the transfer window, that I decided he and the FO were simply not on the same page as to the future of this club. My strong bet is that he realized then that no support would be given to acquire the players necessary needed to make Reading a viable Prem side, and that he could 'stuff it" as far as the FO was concerned. The first loud tolling of the bell. :(
As Gary Johnson...well, if your goal is to have a reasonably able Championship side that will rest content at lying in the middle of the table for a decade, he is certainly capable of providing that.

According to the BBC, he's considering his options:
Coppell Still Considering Future (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/reading/7398304.stm)
Talks between Coppell and director of football Nick Hammond will continue, with the manager reportedly considering quitting the Madejski Stadium.

Demonstrations took place at the Madejski tonight to try and get Coppell to stay. National radio and SKY Sports were there to film it.

I'm glad the fans are doing all they can to persuade Coppell. No one can say that Coppell is not a legend @ Reading.

I think the Reading Evening Post jumped the gun a wee bit with the title of their Coppell article:
He's Staying! (http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2028010_hes_staying)
The backing of Royals’ supporters has had a big impact on Coppell. He told the Post: “I was touched by the reception I had after the Derby game on Sunday.
“That wouldn’t have happened at any other club. They are unique and their response does have a bearing on my future.”
Long story short, he still hasn't made a decision.

There is a facebook group called Save Steve Coppell that has a member on there claiming to be the property manager for the developement that Steve Coppel lives in and that he has his personal email address. He says he sent him an email about his status and got this in return.

Thanks for your mail and the kind words. My situation is on-going but my intention is very much to remain at Reading. The whole thing is at the moment complicated but will become clear in the near future.
Thank you for your support and also thank all your friends for the protest last night
Hope to see you at the Madejski next season
Steve
It's facebook so take it for what it's worth.

First time I've felt optimistic about the club since the 70th minute on the last day of the season. I have a lot of faith that we'll be right back up soon with Coppell staying. Now if we could just get some confirmation that some of the boys will tolerate a year in the Championship to help us return.
