and other Charity to be announced.

Hillview Country Club (http://www.hillviewgc.com) – North Reading, MA

We are excited to announce that we will be holding our 2nd Annual charity golf tournament on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Hillview County Club in North Reading, MA. This, our 2nd ever golf tournament, will benefit two very worthy causes near and dear to our hearts:

The Carrie Holmstrom Trust Fund
On April 28, 2006 Carrie Holmstrom, an all-star high school and club goalkeeper was involved in a horrible car accident. Her vehicle had burst into flames after striking a tree along a road in her hometown of Dartmouth, MA. Three brave men, risking their lives and suffering injuries of their own, pulled Carrie out of the wreck. Carrie was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital and was later treated at the Shriner's Burn Institute in Boston where she underwent multiple surgeries and treatments. Carrie was burned over 70 percent of her body. Doctors put her into a medically induced coma for three months and were forced to amputate both her legs below the knee and the fingers of her right hand. Carrie’s family, friends and NOVA SC teammates created The Carrie Holmstrom Trust Fund to aid Carrie in all of her future endeavors.

The second charity will be announced shortly.

Should you wish to join us for this event and lend your support to these two great causes, or should you have any questions about the tournament, please feel free visit our website for more information or contact us via email at golf@midnightriders.com. Also, if you, or your company, would be willing to help sponsor the tournament, again, please feel free to check out the information at our site (http://www.midnightriders.com).

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Monty Rodrigues, President
The Midnight Riders Inc.

Sounded like you guys had fun last year. Gonna scrap the money together and register in the next couple weeks. Going to talk to my partners and see if I can talk them into doing one of the sponsorship deals.

Depending on travel plans (I could be in London the weekend of this) I'll try and work out a way to participate; at the very least I'd make Monty look good ;-).

We’re happy to announce that the Lincoln Property Company is this year’s major sponsor for the Midnight Riders second annual golf tournament on Sunday, September 28 at the Hillview Country Club (www.hillviewgc.com ) in North Reading.

With tournament planning well underway, we’re ready for golfers and friends to sign up for a day that promises to be a lot of fun and will benefit worthwhile causes. We had a great turnout and a great day last year, so get your registration in early! Tournament registration information is available here (http://www.midnightriders.com/MLSGolfPosterMR-Email2008.pdf) and can be sent to the Midnight Riders PO box or to golf@midnightriders.com.

We’re also looking for additional sponsors. If you or your company might want to help us raise funds for charity, we have plenty of additional sponsorship opportunities ranging from as little as $25, and up to $1,000. You or your company can sign up to be sponsors on the registration form (http://www.midnightriders.com/MLSGolfPosterMR-Email2008.pdf).

So grab a foursome and sign up for a great day on the course with your fellow Riders and the Revs!

And if you could spread the word, or forward the sponsor information to your HR department or anyone at your company who might be able to help us out, our charities would appreciate it.

Thanks!
Amy (Secretary, Midnight Riders)

With the Midnight Riders 2nd Annual Golf Tournament just three months away, we would like to ask for suggestions for our second charity. One of last year's recipients, the Carrie Holmstrom Foundation, will once again benefit from the proceeds of our Tournament. We’d like to get input from our members for the second charity though.

The Executive Board of the Midnight Riders Inc. will decide who will be picked, using a couple of criteria we’d like to adhere to, if possible.

We’d love to have something that’s soccer related. We’d also prefer helping out a local charity obviously. And finally, we’d really like to have this be a smaller charity where our money really makes a difference. The American Heart Association, and other such large charities, are wonderful organizations and do worlds of good. But they receive tons of money each year, and a $5k donation (as we made last year to each of our recipients) wouldn’t make a dent in their donation bins.

So please, think of a situation that hits home with you or someone you know and please email us at themidnightriders@yahoo.com with any suggestion. We’d like to have all suggestions in by June 29th. Please also list why you’d like that charity to be the one that the Midnight Riders sponsor this year.

From the Portland Press Herald.....

Despite life-changing accident, she's still a goalkeeper at heart

Carrie Holmstrom lost her legs in a car accident, but got into a game one last time for her U-19 team.

By RACHEL LENZI, Staff Writer June 30, 2008

SOUTH PORTLAND — More than two years ago, Carrie Holmstrom had mapped out her future as a potential goalie in NCAA Division I soccer. But a car accident in the spring of 2006 changed everything for Holmstrom, a resident of Dartmouth, Mass., who is now 19 years old.
As a result of the accident, Holmstrom lost both of her legs and the fingers and thumb of her right hand, and was in the hospital for more than seven months. The accident ended her dream of playing college soccer.

But for a few minutes Sunday at the Wainwright Complex, Holmstrom got a chance to play in goal for the Nova Soccer Club in its final game of U-19 pool play at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships.

Late in his team's game against the Parsippany (N.J.) Gazelles, Nova Coach Jim Leaverton tapped Holmstrom on her shoulder and gave her the news – she was replacing her teammate in goal. With titanium prosthetic legs and the biggest grin on her face, Holmstrom was back where she felt she belonged.

"I wore cleats every day except for today!" Holmstrom said after the game. "But I was back at home again. I was on the field, and I was crying."

As Holmstrom jogged onto field No. 19 at Wainwright, the crowd gave her a hearty round of applause. On a neighboring field, play stopped in a U-19 girls' game between Coastal Soccer Club and Beadling, and players, spectators and officials turned to cheer for Holmstrom.

"We were all crying on the sideline when she went in," Coastal Coach Jeanne Zarrilli said. "It was unbelievable."

In April 2006, Holmstrom was involved in an accident in which her SUV burst into flames after it struck a tree in North Dartmouth, Mass. Removed from her car seconds before it exploded, Holmstrom suffered burns across 70 percent of her body, including her right arm, which remains covered in scar tissue.

"Three men pulled me out of the car, and I call them my three angels," Holmstrom said. "I was airlifted to Mass General and stayed in the hospital for seven months."

Holmstrom admits that she doesn't remember much about the accident, but she can recite many numbers related to it.
She's undergone 34 surgeries. She's walking on her fourth pair of prosthetic legs, one of which recently broke.
"They're all put back together with chewing gum, duct tape, whatever we could find," Holmstrom explained, laughing. "And I get new ones July 1."

Holmstrom spent more than three months in a medically induced coma. She missed two semesters of high school after the accident, which happened three days before her 17th birthday.

Holmstrom will attend Salem State this fall, after graduating from Dartmouth High School, where she received a standing ovation as she walked across the stage to receive her diploma.

Holmstrom keeps in mind an important part of her identity.

"You know what?" she declared. "I was a goalie. And I still am!"
