Seems as though Pantelic and Hertha will not be agreeing on a new contract. :( Favre and Hoeness really doesn't seem to like him even though he's scored and assisted on half of our goals

I was not being sarcastic at all about the Serbian League. I respect it. I think it is pretty good.

Too lazy to quote the other thread, so some comments to the last posts:

@footyfan: Yes, Hamburg was the slightly better side and if Olic had converted the penalty, it would have been a somewhat deserved win.

@TOLH: Pisczcek is lacking precision, but he's reading the game well, much better than Ebert or Lima. He is also much more determined to actually get into the penalty area and maybe score. He certainly has the mental abilities to become a quality player. He still has to develop his footballing skills though, but that's so much easier than the other way around.

He's also been called up to the preliminary EC squad of Poland.

I agree about Kacar being a potent talent, he however needs to cut down on his overaggressive tackles and actually convert some of the chances.

@serbov: You're right unfortunately. Simunic has the skills to be a great defender and in many matches this season he actually was. His dreaded blackouts are however something he probably can't get rid of anymore and they did cost a number of points this season. His replacement has already arrived though: Steve von Bergen. He had a somewhat poor first leg, but has been fantastic in the second leg matches he played.

Personally I hope Joe will play a good EC so we can unload him to some EPL club. Unfortunately a move of Arne Friedrich to Italy seems likely at the moment and loosing both of them might prove fatal. Even the experienced SvB required half a season to adjust, coming from the comparatively decent league in Switzerland and having played under Favre for years. Imagine how difficult it would be for someone not knowing the coach and coming from a substandard league. That someone would also have to be a starter..desaster waiting around the corner.

Well we could get some Bundesliga experience by getting Tim Sebastian and Lukas Sinkiewicz...

Dude, I guess you haven't been following Bundesliga news. Tim Sebastian has signed with KSC for next season and Leverkusen isn't giving up Lukas Sinkiewicz. He has a future there.

Right forgot about Sebastian. Didnt' think Sinkiewicz had a future because of haggui and M. Friedrich...guess that means that the one frozen out is Callsen-Bracker?

That and Leverkusen has been using Sinkiewicz as a sweeper too......

I don't think either of these players has the potential to replace an in form Friedrich or Simunic.

In other news: According to some albeit not exactly reliable press news, talks with the Tunisian striker Chermiti are coming to a close. I've seen him at the Africa Cup and the CAF CL final, I'm having my doubts if he can replace Pantelic, whose leave seems inevitable unfortunately.

Buy Marko Basa. Although it seems that those from LeMans are tough negotiators . They turned down the offer of Borussia.

Although I haven't watch Hertha much, it seems like he is the only striking option they have, no?

Currently there is no reason for a player like Basa to come to Hertha.

That is correct. All the other options ( basically only Okoronkwo and Lima, as Pisczcek plays in midfield, Ede will leave in summer and noone knows what's up with Domochijvsky ) do not have a long term future at the club and are nowhere ready to be starters. Raffael serves another function, he's somewhat of a link between midfield and the lone striker up front.

If the midfield starts scoring, selling Pantelic could be somewhat compensated. If it doesn't, well, let's not go there.

I would assume somewhat optimistically that the club has summer plans for a striker?

Okoronkwo is shite, he has ability, but absolutely no teamwork and he's very easy to stop. You know what he's going to do, he's going to dribble until he gets a shot opportunity.

Lima is shite, for a target man, he is ok, but his positioning in the box is woeful, he is incapable beating stronger Bundesliga players in the air and is quite slow.

I have no idea whats going on with Domo, he seems like a player we could really use right now, but I haven't a clue whats going on.

The only solution really is Pantelic to get back to being healthy. Raffael has shown before that he is not capable of leading the line, and he's twice the player when Pantelic is on. I could careless if Pante doesn't fit Favre's system, he's the business.

Ebert needs to pull his finger out too. Way too many horrendous performances. Pisczcek isn't that much better either. Kacar will eventually start scoring, he's been unlucky. Mineiro has been also a bit unlucky too in that department, and I think he deserves another contract, he's been doing well for us lately.

So far we only know about Chermiti and after watching him at the CAN and the CAF CL final he can not replace Pantelic anytime soon. I certainly hope he is not the only option the management is considering.

I agree that Kacar and Mineiro do have a decent scoring ability. They however have to convert at some point. I'm convinced Pisczcek will be a major factor next season, that kid just has all it takes.

Ebert doesn't unfortunately.

Filip Djordjevic is another player that Hertha are interested in, he plays currently at FC Nantes in Ligue 2, but he is on loan from some Serbian side.

Ivan Klasnic has also been mentioned as well.

But really the absolutely best decision Hertha can do is to negotiate with Pantelic, get him down from his 4 million euro a year contract to maybe 3.5, which is the same amount of money Simunic and Friedrich make...

Is it really THAT much they earn?

Not a single VfB player earns that much, Friedrich and Pantelic would have trouble getting into our first 11, and Simunic would certainly not start... so i'm just surprised.

I am sure your negotiating position is helped when you can say, "hey Hertha, give me 4 million Euros or the team will probably score 10 goals next season."

Side note: I was playing yesterday with an old Marcelino shirt and a guy asked me if he was Marcelino (forgot last name) who played at Flamengo. Does anyone know?

The Old Lady Hertha
21 Apr 2008, 04:27 PM
There are LOADS of Marcelinhos out there, but no I don't think he ever played for Flamengo.

@VfB I think Friedrich gets paid 3.5, and Simunic 2.5...or the other way around. Pantelic thinks he's one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga and wants to be paid accordingly. I don't think he's worth 4 mio a year.
