AFAIK, that's still pretty much speculation. Did Hertha make an announcement??
You're right, I interpreted the newspaper articles wrong.
Shit, everytime I think I understand this language, I get it wrong :(
Congratulations also to Lukasz Pisczcek, who's now in the EUROS after Dortmund's Kuba got injured.

If Fulham is stupid enough to make such an offer, I hope you guys are gracious enough to take the money....... ;)

I think we'd be more than gracious. ;) We've been trying to get rid of him for like a year now ;)

7 mil for Simunic? His mother would not pay that much for him.

Maybe the 7million is in some eastern European currency that no one has ever heard. It's the only explanation I can think of.

Ah you mean 7 mil dinara? Can be.

Perhaps a 7 million note that they now sell as tourist trinkets on the streets in Belgrade. I myself have a 1 billion note that judging from this situation could be used to buy a football team.

If that happens, it will be the best deal in the Bundesliga since Real Betis saw fit to pay 6M for Odonkor! LOL!!
However, in defense of the Premiership teams, let's remember one thing. 7M Euros is really is not that much to them with the Pound to Euro exchange rate.

Hertha will be playing FC Liverpool on July 22nd in a friendly.
Bild is reporting that Hertha and Etoile have finally agreed on the signing of Mohammed Chermiti for 2 mio euros.

Rumour has it that if Meira is sold then VfB could be looking at Arne Friedrich as a replacement. Anyone here heard about this?

I haven't. Are you guys willing to pay him more than 4M per?
He makes close to that at Hertha.
Wait. I'm talking about the club that gave nearly worthless Basturk 3M per.
Of course you are......

I heard something about Friedrich wanting a 3 year 13 million euros contract???? Damn...dudes getting PAID.

Ahem, besides the Basturk exception, one should keep in mind that Stuttgart is one of the most conservative clubs(in terms of their financial abilities) in the entire bundesliga!
But 4 million I agree would be too much. Then again if we sell Gomez we will at least have some cash to throw around.

He would want more than that. That's not much more than what you guys already pay him.
(Over 3.5M per from what I've heard.)

So what? You mean to tell me the dumb Basturk deal can't be the start of something bad?
But 4 million I agree would be too much. Then again if we sell Gomez we will at least have some cash to throw around.
I don't think you give a guy like Friedrich more than he's worth just because "we will at least have some cash to throw around."
I think as much as Friedrich likes to claim he's a very good central defender, he's a better right back.
If he can't supplant sorry ass Metzelder on the national team, how good can he really be in the middle??

[QUOTE]So what? You mean to tell me the dumb Basturk deal can't be the start of something bad?
It could be in theory, but I hope you would agree that it would be a little premature to generalize a side's entire transfer policy based on one overpriced move. Which is what you did when you wrote 'Of course they are(willing to pay this amount to Friedrich)'.

That wasn't meant as a serious reason...
I think as much as Friedrich likes to claim he's a very good central defender, he's a better right back.
I agree he's better at rightback, but TOLH would prolly agree with me that he's proven his competence in central defense as well. Furthermore, it would give the side more options, say moving him to rightback and having a Delpierre-Tasci central partnership. For example.

I've actually thought that Metzelder has played well in Germany's last matches, especially yesterday. then again, Metzelder is another player i'd gladly have at VfB, but that would be another discussion. :)

It was a "tongue in cheek" remark.

So if TOLH agrees with you, that means what? That it's the gospel?
No offense to either one of you, but come on.
Being "competent" in central defense and paying someone between 3.5 and 4M to be "competent" in central defense are two entirely different things.
My problem isn't with Arne Friedrich in the middle. My problem is Arne Friedrich in the middle at that amount of money.
And neither one of you is going to tell me that he'd be any kind of upgrade over Meira.
As far as your options comments, I agree.
Arne Freidrich at right back? Totally worth it. Arne Friedrich in central defense? He'd better take a pay cut.
I've actually thought that Metzelder has played well in Germany's last matches, especially yesterday. then again, Metzelder is another player i'd gladly have at VfB, but that would be another discussion. :)
See? That's the same thing Real Madrid thought too.
Metzelder is like Podolski. You see what the can be on the national team, but it's something neither one ever shows at their clubs anymore.
When Dortmund didn't do their best to keep Metzelder and even disrespected him during the extension "talks", I was angry. Not just because I wanted to see Metzelder stay for what he meant to the fans, but because we really didn't have anyone better.
Then, when I got over my anger, I sat back and thought about things clearly. It occurred to me that Metzelder had not played well for us in central defense for nearly three seasons. He could never stay healthy either. In his final season, he played better for us at left and right back than he did in the center. He couldn't beat out Wörns and Brzenska in the center and they are both crap.
Real found out the hard way that the club Metzelder and the national team Metzelder are two very different players.
Go ahead and buy him and you'll find out the same thing.......
And I guess we should move this to the Stuttgart thread. Even though the first part was about Arne Friedrich, that last part had nothing to do with Hertha! LOL!! :D
