It seems that although the league I play in is well-organized and most fields are decent - I end up slide tackling one game and cutting up my left knee pretty well on hard ground and stuff. Is there anyway to prevent the cuts besides kneepads. I guess those really high socks could work?!

not sure what they are called or if they have them for knees but in american football there are these little white tape strips receivers put on their elbows to prevent scrapes. im sure they would have them for knees tho.

sorry man, but i dont think theres a good way of avoiding knee scrapes, theyre just bound to happen. my knees are pretty ugly, just make up some good stories for the scars(perhaps this one was a game-saving slide tackle in the 90th minute, or the keeper smoked you as you slid the ball in during OT, etc)

Before you start wearing knee pads, check with your local Referee Association. Our Association does not allow for players to wear anything other than what the Laws allow. NO pads, etc.

You could avoid knee scrapes by not using the slide tackle.

You may want to watch the way you do a slide tackle. You should not actually be on the knee. It should be from the side of the leg. Lift the leg just enough that it is legal and not scraping the ground.

Otherwise, a GOOD story.

Have your AT tape your knee up to protect it.

How about you just learn to slide tackle properly? You're knee's shouldn't get scraped up too bad, and if they do wipe the blood on your shirt and take the pain.

I never scrape my knees when slide tackling, but my hips are another story. My left hip seems to have no skin all through soccer season.

I imagine you've tried spandex/sliding shorts?

I agree with some of the other posters, I think you may need to revise your slidetackling

Yeah. Sliding on you're knees could (or so someone on my team claims he has experienced) start to cause some problems. Not only to the skin, but after a while the repeated contact to the joint itself. While I don't know if that is true, you should still learn how to slide down on your hips... you slide better, can get better extension, and scrapes can be kept relatively small via sliders. And stuff.

Think of it this way: No scars, no proof!
